Post  happydad Fri Aug 26, 2016 1:23 pm

Greetings to all. It has been a tough year. After having my left hip replaced last July, 2015, and having a great recovery I started having intense back pain in early December. After several months of MRI's, XRAY's and CAT-SCAN's I discovered the pain was not from the back, but from the right hip. I had known the right hip was shot at the time I had the left hip replaced in July, but didn't expect the right hip to cause so much pain so quickly after the left hip was replaced. The doctors think all the extra stress on the right side during recovery of the left side just pushed the right hip over the edge. The pain was intense ALL the time, not intermittent like the left hip was. The only relief was going to be surgery again and due to family plans I couldn't do the surgery until August, 2016.
Well the surgery is all done and I am home from in-hospital physical rehabilitation. I will continue in-home physical therapy for another 6 to 8 weeks.
It may be a while before I can continue my Cox engine playtime, but I will try my best to get there soon.

I just wanted to fill you all in as to where I have been for the last weeks.
My advice is: don't get old.   Rheumatoid Arthritis can be rough on the old bones.

I was wondering the other day why we haven't heard from you in a while. Glad to learn that you are (sort of) OK. I hope you a quick recovery Smile

Hi Happy Dad. Very sorry to hear of your hip(s) troubles.. but if they "both" needed replacements.. it's probably better to have had them done; one right-after the other. Yes.. it's a lot of physical therapy/down-time.. but it will all be behind you now. Thanks for checking in with us!

You go, guy. Best wishes, and hoping you can push through. I bet it'll be worth the agony once you've done the rehab.
Good Luck.
Rusty

HD...my older, by 10 years, brother!... I think most of us older farts can relate!

I have been saying since I was just 50ish....." if it hurts this much this morning...70 is REALLY gonna suck!"

very very glad I was not born in the 1800s

I like morphine, tylonol #3, Oxy ,and Flexeril..
hey doctors....take your Aspirin, Advil, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and stuff it...!!!

But then, I observed REAL Heroin Junkies in Germany around 1973~75 and KNOW way better than to get ADDICTED
Just wish my docs would take that as gospel and give me a decent script

I don't have good insurance so frequently I tell the VA....NO thank you (to the surgical option)...so I live with the pain and limitations

I sincerely hope all your fixing and recovery is effective

I noticed awhile back that you and Greg had gone AWOL but it's good to see you back. Not being able to move around without pain must suck, but it shouldn't keep you away from the builders bench. Good luck for a quick recovery.

I will be 80 next year. Hey, that's really old a classmate of mine (class of 1955) told me a couple of months ago when she turned 79, but we still have a cruise planned when we hit 80. I'm pretty lucky. I'm medication and pain free and physically active but facing another prostate biopsy as my PSA hit 11.5. Last one was 20 years ago, 12 needles where the sun doesn't shine. Sad

Happydad, welcome back, so glad to hear you are on the mend. I know one customer who visits my workplace, had both knees done one at a time, then his hips.....he said it was way worth the  time and the pain, to be rid of the pain. No limps, no pain no problem walking.

You other guys are scaring the chit out of me.....don't wanna turn into a drooling blob in a wheelchair due to OxyContin and morphine over use.  Mad I'll take the aspirin/Advil/ Tylenol to ease the pains till I can't stand ( pun intended ) anymore.   I don't know about them Doctors either, first it's just his finger. Then he sends me to his buddy who sticks a camera up there and takes pictures. ( I think that's how he paid for his Hawiian vacation!). sleep  now Bob tells us they're gonna use 12 needles??  Ouch!  What new hell will they think of next?
I am going to start heeding the advice he (dr) has given me the last 15 or so years: eat less, exercise more, lose weight, exercise more, drink more water, exercise more....anyone see a pattern here?  lol!

Same story world wide.  Every visit I get told the same things, lose weight, exercise more.   Reading
I told a friend of mine that.  He said his doctor never tells him that.  You can probably guess, his doctor is fat.  Laughing
