Guillow's kits: substitution of basswood for balsa stringers

Post  SuperDave on Tue Jan 17, 2012 8:25 am

The 1/16" square balsa stringer in Guillow's kit are very fragile and easy to break.

In building my Series 400 Spitfire I'm using basswood replacements from Tower Hobbies. Any additional weight will be a fraction of an ounce over balsa.

PN# LXAS95 - 60 - 24" stringers @ $16.79 (A perfect size for my Spitfire)

Building a guillows t28 now!
Will be using basswood stringers but not many as I want it to be RTF at under 2 oz.

Indra:

My 400 series Spit' has a larger wingspan and will easily manage with all basswood stringers.

Yah I understand as my T28 only has a 16" span and I will be using one of the lightest 4 channel systems around.
My electrics including battery weigh about 2/3 of an ounce
