Wow, that's big. If you had the traveling prop and could get close enough, you could have mounted it on the nose of the ship to take a picture.

Nice find. The red one has modern wheels on it.
Must be boring for you waiting for us North Americans to wake up. I'm hoping to catch some zs again. I woke from a weird dream about fixing someones ... something with little pieces on a van, but I don't know what. Just that they kept scattering the parts. Okay, see you when the sun comes up...

Dream analyze... did you have the TT disassembled with the head, gaskets, shims and screws on your workbench before you went to bed last night?Smile

Haha, good guess, but no, I was thinking about it though. I've been trying to get to it all morning but so far I have been to the nursery, mixed dirt
and planted vegetables. Now it's running up to kickoff time for my football game, which I ain't missing.

I want to crank and tach it as it is first, then change the shims and tach it again to get some idea of how the .005" additional clearance affects it.

Poor thing is still greasy from Thursday.

Oh, what a mess, sorry about that. Looks like some containers went overboard.
My Mom's brother was a stevedore, the foreman at his company, and it seemed like every time he got a chance to relax, a ship would unexpectedly need his attention. His son grew up on tugs, became a Captain and now gets to pilot the big boys. He's harbor pilot. That sounds like an exciting job, but the ships don't stop for holidays.

What's your job? Do you work at the port? Are you a longshoreman? Merry Christmas.

When I was sailing I remember stand-bys in the engine room in Houston-Texas City-Pasadena at Christmas eve as well as drawing main engine pistons at new year's day.

On monday 9 March, a car carrier moored at the RoRo terminal with a dead whale lying on his bulb. It is not known what happened exactly. The animal was removed by crane yesterday

Yesterday, I was on board one of the biggest container vessels in the world. The CMA CGM GEORG FORSTER is 397,87 meters long and 54 meters wide. The vessel can carry 17.554  containers of 20'. This vessel is the second in a series of 6. The most recent one, nr 3, the CMA CGM BOUGAINVILLE was baptised during his first call at Le Havre the day before yesterday. The main engine consumes about 228,2 mT of HFO a day! Loading/ discharging was carried out with 8 gantry cranes simultaniously.

Also makes one wonder what the heck is in all those containers (and how many Small Cox Logo engines are there onboard Very Happy ) Half a dozen ships like that carry about 100,000 containers in total, and then there's all the other ships too, moving stuff around. That's a lot of stuff.

Vessels of that size sail just as any other vessel. After the course for a new voyage is set out , the automatic pilot takes care of the voyage. The position at sea is checked regularly and the automatic pilot adjusted when necessary.

In a dry container, you can find anything you can think off, cartons with jam, shoes, Guillow's kits, fresh onions, cars, drums with chemicals, fireworks, bullits, and even liquid in bulk. reefer containers are also transported with deepfrozen meat, fresh fruit, medicins, egg yokes in bulk, peeled oranges... Not all containers are 20' some are 40', then there are high cube containers, open top containers, flat racks, tank containers...

Some pictures on board a car carrier. The decks can be adjusted in height to suit the vehicles loaded and not to lose too much space
