Happy New addition!

Had a stroke of good luck today, a friend of mine that I've known for a long time came by for a visit and while chatting with him we got into a discussion about cox engines. After the discussion, he went out to his truck and brought back a .049 which turned out to be a space bug jr and said here, it's yours! needless to say I was shocked. Not every day that you have a space bug given to ya! anyway here's a pic of the little gem! It does have a small problem with the back plate but other than that it's in good shape.
New addition! Cox_sp10
here it is, going to pull it apart and try to fix the back plate and replace the gasket and later maybe get a run out of er.

Ahhh, good karma on you TDB.
Looks like it still has the old cylinder/head assembly too. Smoking

I've taken a closer visual look at it and it has the newer style large thread cylinder it's not the old small head one Sad When I break into it, I'll take some pics it's possible it may not be the original cylinder. (Bandit)

Are you sure? That looks like the old small dia. head. You can tell the cylinder by the profile,

I looked at it again and it's the new style but it has the ridge which according to everyone should be the old head was there a period of time when the newer style still had the ridge? Just for kicks and wiggles I tried a new head from one of my bee's and it went right in no problem. It's also the new big head cylinder which I was primarily referring to last night anyway here's some pics;

I guess yours is a post 1955 one with the thin wall cylinder that fits the current glow heads.

Pictured below are my 2 T-Hoppers, the left one is a brand-new pre-1955 with the old head, the one on the right is a post 1955 design with the same thin wall cylinder as yours.

That might be a pretty rare head you got there, I've never seen one like that in the larger dia.
But I'm mostly wrong nowadays, when I was 19 I was always right. Shocked Very Happy

Congrats, TDbandit, you'll need to mount that on a suitable airframe, looks like another potential "Engine of the Month" candidate! St.Pats Beers

Those older engines do indeed look rather neat. So, since I do not have one, how do they run in power, and duration. Do they compare to a Babe Bee? Also, if i may, is it an optical illusion, or is the crankcase nose really long? Sorry for hijacking your thread, and if you like, I would gladly repost this in a new topic should you like. Thank you.

I haven't run it yet but from what I gather, they run comparable or a little better than a babe bee and no it's no illusion, the crankcase is rather long on these engines I'll have a video up of the engine running soon! Smile (Bandit)

Nice I've got another loose thin walled single bypass cylinder that I've got a stuck piston that has the plain head. I think it's off of a space bug as well. (Bandit)
