Pack some washers, or make some wedges prior to flight day. Washers could be used under the inside mounting ears, but the wedges are more secure.

Might not need them, but they will be in your box if you do. Bring some extra screws too. Drop one in the grass an there is no finding it.

Is there a gap between the firewall and engine so the air intake is not blocked?
The instruction sheet says to add washers under the inboard screws to angle the engine thrust outward. So for the air gap, I put one washer under each screw behind the engine. And for offset thrust, I put an additional washer under each inboard screw.

That picture Rod shows has a ridiculous amount of thrust offset. I used #4 washers for air gap and offset. Mine fly okay that way except they need to be balanced further aft than the instructions 1/2" to 1". They won't loop worth a dang, so I will move the CG back another 1/4" next time I fly. Seems like they need more tip-weight too. They are very loose on the lines at 35'.

I guess that the offset is due to the extreme lightness of the coroplast and the lack of a fin.

The only reason for the offset is that the plane is for a beginner. While the designer put these into the plans, they're improving line tension and hampering maneuverability.  Weight and the lack of a rudder is irrelevant. The plane is underpowered and the offset is  insurance that it will keep the plane out on the lines if it gets sideswiped by a crosswind. Coroplast or Corex doesn't hold it's shape well especially if it takes a ground strike or two. As Rusty mentioned, if it starts becoming light on the lines, it could be due to a warp behind the carbon rod seeing the flutes run wing tip to wing tip internally. The carbon is strengthening the wing up front but virtually no strength is behind it. Using a TD would certainly help but a Norvel would be better. I've seen these used with Norvel .061's and the Start Up tank which flew ok.  Ken

Pull the NV and push fuel through the threaded hole. This will flood the engine like nobody's business, but it will also wash the reed and push trash out the intake.

Install the NV, clear the flood, first by tipping the engine up and slowly pulling it through a couple rotations as we don't want to force the engine against a fluid lock (having enough fuel in the engine to fluid lock is very easy when flushing like this). Once the engine is drained it is merely flooded, so try starting it with the NV closed or no fuel in the tank.

After the engine is clear, fuel it up, set the NV, hang a drop of fuel on the closed exhaust port and give it a go.

This is a normal procedure that will likely need done after several landings in grass. It should also be done if you think the engine might have pulled dirt or seeds in. When teaching my nephews last year I had to do this every 3 or 4 starts since they were never running the engine out of fuel and crashing. This year it was not nearly as frequent since running the tank out was normal.

yes it did!!
my golden bee is working i have been doing some practises for my big weekend at the club you know spinning around for ages lol! i simply can not wait then i can fly it in my mums horse's paddock bounce dont worry thats when the horse is being ridden lol! otherwise it will scare the heck out of the old fella!

That's good advice. Resist the impulse to disassemble the engine every time it hiccups. If it was put together right, it should stay that way and many problems can be troubleshot without taking it apart. You always risk introducing new problems when you rip into an engine. I've seen a few folks too eager to take it apart when it first acts up.

i ran the black widow on it yesterday and i back fired and ran backwards and sliced my finger 7 times Shocked it hurt a bit Sad but that that fun isn't it lol! going fying tomorrow with col (one of the old guys at the club ) Flying i carnt wait bounce Airplane im going to get dissy with that big stunt tank drunken

Greg. When you do get in the air, just concentrate on watching the plane. The world will just blur around you, but you only really need to identify what's sky and what's ground. If you focus on the plane then there's less chance of getting dizzy. If your eyes stop following the plane to focus on the background and then have to catch up with the plane, that's when it all goes wrong.

The speed of the plane is also important at the beginning. Maybe a bit longish lines to start to keep the rate of your spinning down. The faster you turn, the more difficult to get over the dizzy's.

Turning in your room is a big help .... hold your hand out just like you are flying (hold a handle too!). Try counting in your head the speed of your revolutions. Maybe start @ 1 turn every 5 seconds .... you'll eventually want to get faster @ 3-4 seconds per turn, which is about the rate you'll be turning with your plane.

When I was really into learning the C/L pattern .... I would stand in a room with my arm out .... turning circles and painting the sky with each maneuver. It really helped.

As you progress, there will be times that the downwind side is facing the sun. The plane inevitably will go right through the sun each time. To prevent being blinded, close one eye just before the plane crosses into the sun, and reopen just after it passes. You'll still have a minor blind spot in your vision, but you'll pickup the plane easily as it passes.
