Wow, that's a nice engine. Great throttle response. What kind of fuel and prop did you use.

Nice running engine! Was it drawing fuel up from that bottle behind the mount?
Re: My COX Medallion Rc .09 first run
Yup at full throttle it was drinking the fuel pretty quick!roddie wrote:Nice running engine! Was it drawing fuel up from that bottle behind the mount?

I don't own any Cox Medallions.. but I've heard that they draw fuel reliably from a tank, as compared to a Tee Dee. I think it's because the Medallions have a smaller air-intake. I've got a #7 .049 cylinder and throttle-sleeve. Wondering if it may have been on a Medallion. I can't remember where it came from.. but I've had it for a long time. I've never ran it.. because most of my airplanes are C/L. After seeing yours run.. I'm tempted to put a reed-valve engine together, to see how it runs.
This #7 has a single bypass port. Is your .09's cylinder single ported?
That's more good news concerning the new Cox/Hobbico fuel blend too! Where did you get your fuel? I'm curious if it was locally, because we don't live too far apart. I'd like to buy some to try.

Yeah the medallion definitely is more gas reliable but still quick compared to an 049
I got the fuel off eBay 10$ and 10$ shipping, all I could find online, cause near every hobby shop I visit they don't have a castor blend, I would like to try glow boy.
Oh and mine is twin ported/I added that to my 049 medallion and it did take more gas at once, not by much though.
Dosent have a number on cylinder

Re: My COX Medallion Rc .09 first run
Here's mine I haven't ran it ((( glad I got it out needed oiling (( Roddie from what I understand is that the Medallion has 3 spray bar holes rather than like the TD with one , that was the answer I got I thought it was in the crankshaft port ??? That's where Ron Cribbs was working on mixing the two ?? Pic Time .. I don't know what cyl. # is on it and not taking it apart now ,, but does look like its been sprayed with a clear something on the lower case ? getback

Re: My COX Medallion Rc .09 first run
Wow.. 20 bucks for a quart.. I guess anybody's gonna' have to pay that for one quart, mail-order. I haven't bought glow fuel in an embarrassing long time. I'd always been a Sig Champion "25" and "35" user since Genuine Cox glow-fuel became unavailable. I still have a couple quarts.. but it's not fresh fuel. I've been paying attention to the threads here on fuel. The Hobbico thread on their Cox Superfuel re-blend was terrific. Hobbico stepped up to the plate.. and then some. Then there's GlowPlugBoy.. I've heard good things about their fuel as of recent.
That .09 might make a nice boat engine.. I think Dumas Products still makes the running gear.. A two-channel radio.. and you're in business! I built a Dumas "Short Stuff".. a little 18" built-up mahogany ply V-hull years ago.. and powered it with a Graupner Multi-Speed Mono (540 can-motor) but I'd love to mount a throttled glow engine/flywheel in there! An .09 would at least match the performance of the electric motor that's in it now. I'd save mondo-weight without the 8.4V sub-C NiCd pack! It was BEC.. but now there are super lightweight LiFe battery packs to power your receiver and drive your rudder/throttle servos. Build a lightweight hull.. and the only significant weight is in the engine and the amount of fuel.
This was a fun model to build!
The carry-box is an "onion crate" with bungees suspending the model. The deck/hull is vented with 1" "soffit" vents.. but you'd need more access running an engine.

TopB,
Are you still looking for a Medallion needle valve?
If so, send an Email to Bernie at Cox International:
http://coxengines.ca/
He doesn't have the correct Medallion needles, but sold me a couple a few months ago that work just fine! Ask if he still has the needles that work in the Medallion .049, and .09 engines.
If not, I have a spare you can have. The knob is missing, but any Cox knob should fit it, if you really have to have a knob.

Cox glow engine in a boat
I would agree with you that the Cox 0.09 would look great in your boat.
As long as you realize that they are a lot fussier to start than an electric.
And a WHOLE lot messier! There will be oil everywhere especially with the dual ported cylinder.
During a recent visit to Carr's hobbies in Duluth I was able to pick up Sterling nylon props for "1/2a" and "BC" engines for $1.25 and $1.50 respectively.
And if you go ahead with the glow conversion, try taking the boat out for a drive while you control it from inside a real boat. You can literally go for miles; much more fun than driving around in circles IMO.

The engine isn't mine.. I was just making the boat suggestion to TopBannana. His engine's throttle response was really nice. His bench-run area is cool too. A cement slab to set up on.. out behind a shed.. looks to be facing into the woods.. nice sturdy engine-mount. Makes me want to build an engine stand. Something built for "grab & go".. like a saw-horse with hinged-legs.. and brackets for a small accessory tote. Make a selection of hardwood blocks for the engines you want to run.. and secure them to the cross-bar with deck-screws. Set it up in the shop.. then carry it outside.. fold-open the legs and proceed to flip!
