I've just gotten involved in 1/2A after many years away, though I've owned a few Coxes for several years, and decided to dig out and check over my Pee Wees.
I set one up on the bench and, after a good bit of fiddlin' due to inexperience, it's starting easily and running.
It's turning the Cox 4.5x2 black @ ~16K on 15% Super Power - good, bad or average?
Are the Pee Wee needles prone to leak, so better to use a section of fuel line?
This one seems very sensitive, peaking at only 3/4ish turn out with 1/8th turn either way making a BIG difference.
2 others have been drilled for F/F external dropper tanks, so I need to JB the holes before I try them.
The 2 I've checked have the alloy star reeds, is mylar better?
One other thing - is there a secret to keeping a piece of fuel line on that stubby little Cox fuel can nipple?

They came with different amounts of SPI, and the ones with larger SPI are bit more finicky on the needle. I don't think I've ever manage to get a stable, tank emptying run, without chasing the needle with minor adjustments through out the tank...

They work very well as diesels though, you get longer runs that are dead stable and it will finish the tank every time! Smile

Thanks for the response, Kris, maybe mine's not particularly cantankerous then.
I'm fond of diesels but I don't plan to put this on anything so flight time's not an issue.

When the then new Pee Wee first hit my LHS (Joyner's Bike Shop, Lexington, KY), I got one. Only the engines had arrived, no props, no plugs. I whittled down a Tornado Plasticote 6x3 to about 4.5" (real stubby!) and quickly built a sheet wing (~12"), box fuselage plane. Tried to fly it on ~10' lines and quickly realized that I had greatly underestimated that engine. It circled much faster than I could turn, and the lines wrapped around me with the engine stopping as it hit my leg.

I ran the engine a few more times, then it stopped running. No compression. After looking it over I realized that although the glow plug glowed, its insulation had failed and it would not hold compression. Another trip to the hobby shop...that's when I found that the glow plugs were back-ordered. So I put it away until props and plugs were available.

16K is about average for a Pee Wee. They reallycome into their own with the little 3 blade prop. 20k is easily achievable.

The siicone tubing trick on the needle does wonders, be sure the tank to venturi seal is working properly. They can be made to be reliable, just takes a little effort and understanding.

I suspected about average, having run the 2nd one with a significant rpm increase.
Rebuild kits are on the way.
Though tempted, I don't foresee flying them anytime soon......but I can at least have 'em ready if the notion overwhelms better judgement. Very Happy
