Golden Bee Question Empty Golden Bee Question

Post  fargophil Tue Nov 08, 2016 12:07 pm

Trying to start a Golden Bee that has been sitting around for a few years. Will run out the prime but no matter how much I open the needle valve only runs out the prime. My best guess is the reed is stuck after all these years. The question, is there a way to free up the reed without dismantling the engine? Realizing dismantling is not the biggest problem in the world but if somebody know a trick to get fuel to feed without the effort I would be more than happy to hear about it.

hey FargoPhil

obviously the biggest reason to NOT disassemble and clean properly is lack of parts

so first check out
http://www.exmodelengines.com/
and
http://coxengines.ca/

my preference being Cox international

BUT you MAY have some success:
if you flood a goodly amount of heat ( hair drier) and Drug store 91% alcohol into and out of the interior of the engine....but I doubt it

The odds are good that the one very small O ring in the tank is shot and you may well have one or more air leaks and not just a crudded up reed

Welcome to the forum

If you are jazzed to hear these lil buggers scream again...

Get:
Gasket and reed back end set
one or more new head gaskets
New Glow head as needed...many options
Sig or other 25% Nitro fuel with mostly Castor lube at 23~28%
One or more good propellers...balanced please

Good secure engine mounting
Decent amperage 1.5Vdc start battery
Spring starter is a very good option...finger flip can get tedious....electric is OK but a special technique so as to not ruin the engine

You engine is old so deliberately disassembly to de gumm it is bound to require, at the very least, a NEW venturi O ring...you can actually make this yourself by VERY carefully slicing the end off small fuel tubing with a razor blade.... takes me 5 cuts to get one the right thickness and squareness

Once all the old gummed up castor and crud is gone, and a squeaky clean engine is ready, there is nothing so gratifying or infectious, as the first prime burn off followed by a several minute run out of the fuel tank

Place the piston all the way to the bottom (so the bypass ports are open), close the needle valve and squirt a good stream of fuel into the air intake under pressure. That should free the reed. Give the engine plenty of flips to get rid on the fuel before trying to re-start.

i WOULD GO WITH fRED'S SUGGESTION BUT stupid cap loc. if you squirt a lot of pressurized fuel into the one tank vent and cover the other to FLOOD the engine through the reed it may break loose if not go with Fread and get it running right ! sooner or later you will have to clean it anyway Babe Bee .049
