I just purchased one of the P-38's last month. I just got around to shaping the leading edges. I liked the kit, whether by fault or knowledge, the fuse was made from the correct choice of balsa. I would've appreciated even vinyl decals over printed paper. I remember seeing this kit in the hobby shops I used to frequent. It was too much money at the time as I could buy two other kits vs one so I always passed on it.

I believe I'm just going to build as intended. Nothing fancy, just some Babe Bee's for power. Hopefully, this model flies well. I need a replacement for my C-47 that got wrecked due to a line break last yr. I just found the pictures of my C-47 which I completed 40 yrs ago. The real question is what color to finish the P-38 in. I love all of them. Olive drab, all white with red and blue stripes, silver? The next question is where can you locate some Cox tractor props? All I see is pusher props available. I threw out at least 20 new ones about 2 yrs ago. I figured that I would never use them and now I can't locate any.

Ken,
A guy by the name of Michael Halbrook built the Sterling you see on Outerzone. He and I passed a few FB messages regarding his build/kit a few years back. He was quick to indicate that Babe Bees (with integral tanks) make the plane nose heavy. Of course, Babe Bees install easier. His is the silver one with monokote wings.

A woman who goes by "Airsoft Brenda" on YouTube built the DPCModels kit you have. She went with electric on hers. She is the one that introduced me to Dave Cowell.

Both indicated building by plans yeilds a neat Roundie-Roundie flier, but noted the kit wasn't built for anything beyond that. But I suspect you already know what this plane won't do.

Regarding decals, vinyl vs paper...yep, This is the one place Dave cheaps out on. Considering the expense of the kit he sells for so cheap I wonder how he does it...true decals would add significantly to the cost of the kit.. I think this is a place where it can't be economical for him to print on waterslide decals. He is a cottage-industry guy, so keeping up with the appropriate inks for a few prints at a time may not be financially feasible.

I plan on building mine with product engines and separate tanks just to move the CG back some. I have access to a scanner, and will rescan the prints and print my own. I look forward to how your build goes. Please document it.
