The Sterling Fledgling laser cut parts kit arrived from Lazer Works it was in a neatly packaged box. I was in LA when it arrived so I had to wait a bit. I opened it up this evening and was pleasantly surprised with the wood quality and the laser cutting. I only need to pick up some square stock to finish it out.

Hardware and such will need to be purchased as well. I think it was $62 well spent. If anyone wants a kit from the website, you had better hurry as Eddie is retiring by the end of the year.

I am such an idiot. Spent the last couple days looking over the plans, just trying to find out where the maple engine bearers are supposed to go. It finally dawned on me that this is not control line...

Congrats, looking forward to build!

You know, i wouldn't be surprised if the original version of kit did have wood mounts, many R/C kits from the late 60's early 70's did.

I think that's correct. My plan-book copy shows wooden engine bearers. Looking forward to the build and flight report!!!

Whole new world Ron.

Is that the full sized 56" Fledgling?  I don't recognize a single part.  The Falcon 56 is very similar.

For what it may be worth here are some pictures of my 20 + year old build with many many hours on it by both me and my son.  He learned to fly R/C with it.  I hope it helps you visualize some of the aspects.  He added some day glow to the bottom of the wings to help him see it better.  I used T type alloy bearers and an Enya .29, best running easiest starting engine that I have.  No power worries, loops are a breeze.

The only time it ever "crashed" was while riding in the interior of my son's '65 Mustang.  Remember that?  Ironically he shipped them from Denver to here thinking that would be the safest form of transport.  Turned out it was, never got a scratch, his Dago Red suffered a bit though.

Yep, full size Bob 56"

Thanks for the pictures, they help a lot. I may even ask you for some more as I get underway.

I bet that both you and your son will spend a lot of time together with it. I don't think you will be able to resist the urge to put it in the air yourself. Just remember if all else fails - hands off the controls, chances are with that wing, proper balance, and enough speed it will right itself. Well, maybe. Smile
