Hey,  I'm old and can't be hurt, so here goes.   I'm a romantic at heart, but I darned sure didn't start out that way, It sorta evolved.

Sure, I'm a fan of guy movies, Fight club and up (or down) from there.  But I like romance too.  The first movie I saw with Elizabeth Taylor  was "A Place in the Sun" and I was hooked.  18 years old and she was drop dead gorgeous.  Won several academy awards.

Other favorites on the romantic side are:

Always - Combines comedy and airplanes in an exciting setting.  John Goodman is great.  Audrey Hepburn  makes a cameo appearance.

A Good Year - Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard star in this little known movie that is a pleasure to watch.

The Horse Whisperer -  Redford and an amazing Kristin Scott Thomas play in God's country.

The Lake House/A walk in the Clouds - Both with Keanu Reeves

The Electric Horseman - It's got Jane Fonda in it, so what she's pretty good.  Willie Nelson sings and the music is incredible.  A favorite.

These are just a very small sample of my softer side.  I could go back to the fifties and really bore you with films like Double Indemnity (They both die in the end), but I won't.  Thought I would just pick a few that you younger fellows might be familiar with.

I tune in TCM a lot, my favorite movie Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Flight of the Phoenix a close second.
I love the very old movies that show real clips of racing and flying.
Will not go to movies out anymore, boycott Hollywood.

Oh yes!

But getting back to the genre that Bob mentioned.. A few of my favs are.. "White Palace".. a May-December romance between "Max" (James Spader) and "Nora" (Susan Sarandon). Most people that I've asked, haven't seen this 1990 movie. It's well-worth watching IMO.

Another movie that most people that I've asked, haven't seen; is "My Jones" with Richard Gear and Lena Olin. In this 1993 movie; Gear plays the part of a man with manic-depressive disorder. Danny Glover co-stars. I highly recommend this movie.

Yes,  Elvis's "'Ol Shep" gets me too.  Smile

And CB,  I enjoy TCM also.  By coincidence "Double Indemnity" played last night and I gave away the ending.  Smile

Watched the "White Palace" trailer roddie, feel like I saw the whole movie.  Ankle bracelet worn by Barbara Stanwick played a prominent role in "Double Indemnity" too.  Catchy dialogue in that movie along with some neat 1930's automobiles.

Edit add:  Once I had a cassette tape of the Electric Horseman's sound track and wore it out.  Especially effective "at speed" in my 1974 Corvette.  I have spent the last 20 years looking for another copy.  Should any of you vintage tape hoarders have one, shoot me a PM.

Edit add #2 - Forget it, found one on Amazon.  Smile

Movies don't usually get to me much, but I CAN be taken to an embarrassing close edge of crying by videos of veterans being reunited with their kids at ballgames and such, where the kids didn't know that the umpire was their dad in disguise 'till he pulled off his face guard.

There's also an ad running now that features what looks to be a guy going through his mid-life crisis 'Bucket List'---sitting in as drummer with a young rock band, along with a bunch of other kid-type stuff. The last entry being 'help out mom', with him painting a front yard fence, and a lady walking out to listen to his chest for the heartbeat of her deceased son's donor heart.

That one 'bout got me.

They actually flew that thing, well Jimmy Stewart didn't but a stunt pilot did and lost his life in the process.  May have been one of the final scenes showing it going behind the dune then the passengers climbing up and over it.  Not very romantic.

I got a kick out of the crews reaction to a model plane designers effort to reconstruct the plane into flyable condition.

Yeah Kim, boots, weapon with a helmet on top gets me too. Kid's coming home in boxes should not happen!!!!!!!

I don't really watch romantic movies, occasionally I am "moved" by some scenes in movies and even TV-commercials, but ever since I saw "Titanic", the cynic in me has fought against it as it is all so calculated and commercial... Titanic went so overboard (pun intended) with the tacky stuff and cliches incl the music that even I noticed it, and movies just have not been the same for me since.

A propos "Titanic":

Translation:
Grandma: 'I think "Titanic" was a lousy movie.'
Grandpa: 'I only saw Titanic's trailer.'

1966 "Un Homme Et Une Femme" with Anouk Aimé and Jean-Louis Trintignant, never equalled!!
It's about a love story between a racing car driver who lost his wife and a woman who lost her husband.

The movie has great car scènes:

The Monte Carlo rally:

Trintignant's arrival at Montlhéry race track

And my favorite scene when he drives the GT40 and takes his hands of the steering Wheel while the car is on the banking:
