Wanted Motor Mounts

Post  londke3 Thu Aug 10, 2017 2:46 pm

I need 2 sets of beam mounts for TD .049 and .051.  I have 6 old 1/2A combat planes from Mack Henry's collection I want to get in the air again for Samuel. I have engines, just need mounts and do not want to make them. I have 1 set of Larry's mounts but they are being used and no longer available from Kitting it Together. What ya got?

Mike, Larry still shows the mounts in stock this of course without the hardware he used to offer. I do remember he was out of these mounts but this may take an e-mail to confirm but they're listed on the site. Ken

I probably have an old Dave Brown(?) mount, gray with the twin beams, RC type. Give me your address and I'll send it.

For TD/Medallions I use the screw-in backplate aluminum radial mounts with the round collar full of holes. I get those from TexasTimers.com.

Thx but that's a radial mount. I need beam mounts for these planes.

I think what Rusty means is that the mount he refers to allows you to radial mount a Tee Dee to a flat firewall.  The radial mount screws into the crankcase in place of the backplate, meaning that you don't need to use the beam mounts.

I wish I knew what was "actually" needed here.. so I could assist in getting some airplanes ready for Samuel to fly! I've watched his flight-vids.. and he's a natural! Is the beam-spacing different for the engines that were on these models? Can the beams be cut-back and have new 1/4" square maple-beams grafted-in? That would work.. wouldn't it? They can easily be cut on a table-saw and even a crude "rabbit -joint" reinforced with thread/epoxy would seal the deal. A little work with a razor-saw.. for the rabbit-joint.. mark/drill the Tee Dee mounts.. and you're ready to fly.

I understand the Texas Timer mount is a radial. It won't work for this application, and the Dave Brown mount is a radial as well. There are no firewalls on these planes to allow the use of any type radial mount. They only have nose blocks set up for beam mounting engines on aluminum mounts. If I can post a pic I will. Thanks for the replies.

http://kittingittogether.com/images/products/thumbs/regular_kt10.jpg This is what I am looking for. Hopefully I can get some from Larry. I could make maple ones but don't want to. These are cheaper than my time. Thanks for the kind words about Sam.

It looks like Larry has them but he is not shipping any items until Aug. 27th. He must be on vacation and I would like some as soon as I can get them so I will take you up Fred. I can either send you $$ or replace them when Larry is shipping again. I'll pm you my address.

I appreciate the reply but a radial mount to a firewall just will not work. There is no firewall, just a nose block. Thx.

Anything you are looking for? Maybe I can help you out? Got any kids or grandkids? I could send you some Delta Dart kits to build with them.

Mike

I went super nuts the last 5 years ---and fearing a lot of this stuff was never to be found again I much over compensated

For last few years I have been (hopefully) buying a bit of extra Karma by send some of my stash to where it is needed and will be used

I actually have enough of all this stuff to keep my son, my grandson, and probably his children with all the bits to play airplane well into the distant future

Your contribution is the all real fun we get to see of YOU and SAMUEL, as Dad n son playing, learning, and having lasting memories

Fred the mounts arrived today in good order. Thanks for getting them out so quickly. Now I can set up 2 more of Mack's 1/2As for Samuel. We sure had fun flying in the backyard yesterday. Now that we'll have 3 planes with motors we'll be able to fly some matches with each other. Again Thanks for the help and if I can ever return the favor let me know.

Ha too funny

I was looking for something else and came across this from Brodak

Keep in mind Kitting it together price is $8.99 per set

http://brodak.com/pre-drilled-combat-motor-mount-for-brodak-049-engine.html

a tad pricey IMO

------------------------------------
Mike I sincerely enjoy your video essays of adventures with Samuel

I do hope we cross paths in the near future... before Samuel finds cars and girls.... I intuitively know you have done what it takes to keep him smart enough to by pass drugs n booze

Way back when My boy Justen was interested, I infected him (not to the degree you did Sam)
I did not really loose him to social pressure or video games ----but hard work.... he has been 100% employed since age 16

On occasion we get to hooked up for a flying session, but now at, 37, he is a Master Electrician Foreman with Zero time to play with daddy

I may be 80, drooling on myself, and in a wheel chair ---BUT I plan to be his stooge when he does retire and come back to playing with toy airplanes

Yikes!! Considering Larry's are $8.50 Brodaks do seem a bit steep at $25.

Ah Mike

We buy into Larry's for the price ---not considering John's are made from Unobtanium and only weight .00375 grams

OK on a slightly serious side, I managed to get a few Cyclon and Fora 1/2a engines and the mounts for those are pretty pricey...when you can find any

Back to the bar stock mounts I sent you

I took the time to take some CF bar stock, and carved/drill n tap them to duplicate Larry's set

Way too much trouble ----and the final parts were quite a bit heavier than Larry's

Also early on I had a few Jeff Dawson (KITS*) but not many aluminum mounts....so I took his nose block and made one out of Maple but with tuning fork front so I could mount a NV .049 Aero

obviously came out nose heavy, vs his nose block, but it did work for my hacking

*Jeff does not sell Kits ---but one of my trips down to San Antonio to play airplane with Jeff, he had a bunch all cut out ready for his assy... sent me home with 3 sets of every thing ,after showing me how he made one
