Re: Aluminium fuel tanks for Cox Tee Dee .010 & .020
I have put together the TD .020 tank version. There was a issue with the small O
ring fitting inside the crank case. Perhaps after anodizing the tolerances are off
enough to cause pinching of the O ring and potential leaks. The O ring was oiled
and carefully assembled I tried to shove it in with a thin guitar pic it just would
not stay inside the crank case as I evenly tighten down the tank screws. Took
it apart and tried rolled the O ring added more oil no luck so just did my best
and tightened it down and did a leak test here are the results.
Filled the tank up wiped it all down let it sit for a few mins here are the results:
I will have to order another O ring kit for the TD .020 and try again.
I use 1/2oz tanks with my TD .020's pulling the fuel out shows how much it holds in represented bottle.
This is a good amount of fuel over the stock tank kudos!
The O ring fits flush to the base of the fuel tank face this is the problem is allows migration.
I recommend a sight design change as shown in this example the O ring has separation from
the front face of the back wall and can not migrate out when the screws are tightened.
This works very well from my use with TD .010's and .020's backplates no O ring leaks nor pinching of the rubber.
Here are my weight findings no fuel vs fueled.
I did buy a .020 carb body just to have in case I want to use a spring starter typically
I start this size and up with elect 1/2A starters.
And the two Silver Surfers together:

If you run RPM Gauge on a split screen of your phone together with a video on a flight or a bench run , you can measure the engine rpm on-line.

1/2A Nut,
Sorry to hear of your troubles.
Our vendor said he tested the setup for leaks and could not see any. We don't have any 020 tanks left for us to check this but will pass along your suggestion in regards to recessing the seal.

Forgot to mention that we are in the process of sourcing 0-rings (they are all metric lol) and we will get you a gasket kit when available.
Re: Aluminium fuel tanks for Cox Tee Dee .010 & .020
Thank you Bernie, yes slight recess off the wall of the tank will stop the O ring from migrating.
Also can you confirm the size allen head wrench for the rear plate screw on the fuel tank?
I used a .05 hex key, seemed to have a lil play in it, was a new fresh key / first time use.
Perhaps it is a metric screw?

Yep, everything Metric aside from the four 2-56 screws. The backplate screw is a M2-15 and takes a 1.3mm wrench.
Having a field day trying to source all the Metric parts and will mostly be from eBay / China.

Good to know, the 1.5M is more common / most folks have that in their key set.
I will source a 1.3M to insure I have torqued down the screw good and tight to
hold up to engine vibrations. Your vendor should consider setting up the fill / over
fill tubes like stunt tanks for rolls / inverted flight / hammer head stalls etc.

Good test Brad , and to see where a problem is and to afix it before i pull the trigger on some these . 1.3 mm is off from what i have and for .20c more could bee added to the package being its odd here in the states.

Re: Aluminium fuel tanks for Cox Tee Dee .010 & .020
Thank you Eric!
You can get the 1.3M allen wrench key on ebay for a couple of bucks, I have one in the mail on the way.
Same size is needed for the TD .010 tank too. I like these tanks for bench testing props all ready to go
in one piece. Will still use the nylon tanks for flying but may do up a sport design to suit one of the tanks for fun.
It's all about the fun and joy of the components, designing, building and flying that makes the hobby special.

When we run production again we will switch to a slot-head for the backplate screw.
Re: Aluminium fuel tanks for Cox Tee Dee .010 & .020
I used a .050” allen wrench for the backplate screw. It is a bit loose but fit tight enough to tighten the screw.

Sorry, just got back from a camping trip
Probably in 2-3 weeks from now but will have to check how many are still available after pre-orders.

Re: Aluminium fuel tanks for Cox Tee Dee .010 & .020
Just ordered the both sets for the 010 & 020. Do I need a 1.3 mm allen key or has Bernie switched to a slotted screw for the back or the tank?

1/2A nut, can you please identify yourself to us so that we can send you the replacement O-rings? A screen name does not always correlate to a real name lol.
Re: Aluminium fuel tanks for Cox Tee Dee .010 & .020
Yes thank you Bernie, email sent per your link with the full contact info.
