AeroGloss 4 ounce jar lids

AeroGloss 4 ounce jar lids
Ok All,
This one will be odd. Maybe you can pass this one by the food canner in your family.
My old collection of AeroGloss dopes is in peril! Each bottle that I open is usable for a period of time. They are kept in the garage since my wife is "allergic" to the smells.
The seals get broken upon opening. Sometimes the waxy inner seal tears. Other older ones have the metalized carboard seal.
I hope to order new seals and/or lids for the jars. However, I don't know the lid sizing system.
If you know the size, then I can order new seals or lids.
Thanks in advance!

Re: AeroGloss 4 ounce jar lids
I repackage my old Aerogloss stock with problem lids in baby food jars (getting hard to find nowadays due to new plastic yogurt style packaging) and larger quantities in approx. 14 oz. pasta sauce jars from ALDI. Anything with a rubbery seal in top, test with acetone/MEK prior to use. I've had good luck so far.
I may also try some instant coffee jars with waxed cardboard disc lid seals.

Thanks. I'm looking to keep the dopes in the same jar, but replace the lids as seals get damaged.
I'm learning about sizes now. Apparently they are sized XX mm/400-where XX is diameter in mm and 400 means continuous thread. The alternative thread is lugged, like baby food jars.

Re: AeroGloss 4 ounce jar lids
Or maybe you could get some empty (new) paint cans from a hardware store and transfer the dope in them?

Gentlemen,
I appreciate your suggestions and creativity!
Cork tends to fall apart, and will eventually contaminate bottles of dope.
Neoprene may fall apart due to chemical incompatibilities...I don't know this, just assumed.
Local paint shop can provide pint and quart cans. I HAD a pint of clear. As the clear gave way to unfilled volume, the remaining dope congealed into an unusable putty. Four ounce bottles can be used fast enough to minimize waste.
Still looking for the size and source of our two favorite dope vendors' bottles (Brodak and Sig).
Keep 'em coming guys!

Re: AeroGloss 4 ounce jar lids
Given the preferences you've expressed with the matter, I think you'd be better off trying to source lid liner material and figure out a reasonably quick and economical way to cut nice round circles of it and re-use/rescue your old jars.

Re: AeroGloss 4 ounce jar lids
FWIW, it appears the lid size is 48/400. I'm going to search for this size next.
A guy on StuntHanger suggested HDPE.
1 gallon milk jugs are HDPE. I cut gaskets out of the flattest portions, which yielded about 10 pieces. The first lid had that satisfying smoosh to it as I twisted the lid in place.
Testing will begin on a bottle of thinner to see if it evaporates in the sun. If no loss of thinner, then more will be made to replace my most damaged lids.
FWIW...Sig MFG (SigPlanes said to call the plant) said they will email an offer for 24 lids (a number I said I needed). Brodak said they don't carry that size anymore.

Geez.. I have some vintage Aero-Gloss product.. and would like to preserve what I have.. if possible. I should go-through what I "do have".. to see if it's still ok.
As far as cutting-out circles for "lid-gaskets".. I have a template made by "C-Thru" that makes marking/cutting-out circles easy. It's C-THRU part#T831

Roddie,
I made a.paint shaker from an old drill. It oscillates the bottoms more than the tops, and has successfully shaken the pigment back into suspension in several really old bottles.
You'll be surprised just how much old dope can be revived!

I guess it is time to figure out YouTube. A picture is worth 1000 Words. A movie is worth 1000 pictures. I guess that makes a movie worth a million words?
