From this site can you download a set of plans to a zip drive and take it somewhere like staples and have them print out a full large set of plans? And how to do it if you can? I'm not the greatest techy guy around. just enough to get me in trouble.

Yes you can. Just copy and bring it to Staples. I have done it many times. They can't make a 14" copy wing into exactly the wing spread you desire but they can come close.

So they can't make a full size set of plans? Not sure what you mean by your statement. They can't make a 14" copy wing into exactly the wing spread you desire but they can come close.

Re: coping plans
There will be a little oversizing or undersizing while copying plans.

So you wouldn't be able to trace and cut parts from the plans? Because they would be the wrong size?

Zip drive!!!! Man I haven't used one of those for 20 years. I still have an external USB Zip drive that took the 250 Mb disks.

I think you have much better luck using a USB flash drive nowadays.

No. Because all plan undersized, so all parts undersized. Not too much, perhaps about 1/16". I printed plans and this undersizing is unimportant.

Re: coping plans
Hi there oldguy.... Was the link you posted to the plan you wanted? If so, I already went ahead and tiled the plan for you if you are interested. I have it set to print out on 18 'letter' size pages, all marked in the corner for easy alignment. Just trim the edges and tape together. I like this method myself as you can copy out teh complete plan and tape it together, but also you can copy out sections for parts templates if needed. It looks to be true to the 42" wingspan as per the plan. If interested, please PM me your e-mail address and I can send it to you in pdf format.

Re: coping plans
Try a usb thumb drive. A zip drive might be hard on them
Ok, get proper dimensions of the plane. Get an accurate ruler. Explane to the person that you are building this model and it needs to be proper scale. Printout at 100%, measure the largest known key features. Use a calculator and estimate the increase or decrease to achieve correct scale, usually this is way less than 5%, and more like some decimal % because the files are good and so are the machines you are paying to use.
I use trial and error on my phone's calculator but there is a formula to get the correction, but I never remember what it is.
Have a second printout made with the scale correction. Verify it is to the correct scale Since this is B&W line art posters they are cheap and often you will not get charged for the first failure.
DO NOT show up when they are busy. Ask when is good for them. They may want you to work with a specific person. You may be lucky and have a modeller helping you
Best of luck
Phil

I don’t know just where in AZ you are located but i just googled blueprints printers band got these, your location may have similar but different companies. Take your thumb drive in and tell them you need it printed out with a ( what ever size) wing span and they should be able to do it, with out trying 6 times to guess and re guess.
Or.. take George up on his offer of using the tile print function and buy a roll of scotch tape! Ive done that many, many times.

Re: coping plans
A good print shop can do it for you from a PDF on a thumb drive. I use a local service that caters to architects. They can print full size, just take a ruler with you and check the scale at the bottom of the plans to make sure it's right. If they're worth a darn, they can also scale them to whatever scale you might want. For instance a 50% Classic Pattern model like a Kwik Fli III. That's one in my queue. I love OuterZone! Or you can tile.them and print them at home. Done that a time or two too.

Re: coping plans
Hi there! Allow me to suggest an alternative method. Do you have Adobe Acrobat Reader? If not, this is a free download program that opens, reads and prints .pdf files. If so, you can open the particular file from say, Outer Zone and print it at home. The Adobe Acrobat print menu will allow you to select a print mode called "Poster" and it will show you how many sheets of paper will be needed for a full size plan. Once printed all you need do it trim and tape the edges. I've used this method many times with great success. Hope this helps.

Re: coping plans
I did a tile print of Hal DeBolt's 56" (1425mm) span 1955 Equalizer. https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=349. Came out with roughly 50 sheets printed in letter (8.5"x11") tiles from my HP Laserjet printer. Left at least a 1/4" border after paper cutting (a knife blade paper cutter is desirable), used a standard paste glue stick that resulted in a satisfactory plan. To some, that may seem more trouble than it's worth, but it worked for me.

Re: coping plans
And another vote for a very nice looking plane. Last night I did tile and send the plans to him. I am torn about tiled plans myself. 95% of teh time, I tile and use my own plans. I like tiling as I can print them out at home, whenever I want, and no waiting. Depending on size, I do agree that taping them together can be a bit of a pain, but as mentioned earlier, a paper cutter is a BIG assett. Also for tiling, I like it as I can print out certain areas as needed, or if I want to cut out parts, I can print out just that area. However, building off of one big sheet is also very nice.
