This manual was originally included with an overhaul kit, it details the differences between and the disassembly of the two types of recoil starters used. Invaluable for those trying to clean up or repair a Cox car engine.

That is really interesting. What I did in the past was carefully remove the retainer ring and take off the hole unit away from the crank case nose. I was so affraid that the spring would suddenly jump out.

Here’s a link to a short write-up I did a couple years ago about cleaning up a car engine. There’s some pictures of the recoil starter taken apart, mine is the wedge-and-roller type. Maybe it is useful to someone Smile
