Delta x-12 1/2 kilometer flight
Today was a sunny day with little wind and in the late afternoon I took the plane out for some more flights.
It was difficult to obtain a constant rpm with whatever setting of the needle. The engine cut out or the plane woud not climb and circle down with a running engine. I changed the 3 blade prop for a 2 blade 5x2 "Super" prop. That solved the rpm problem. the Pee Wee ran steady, also when set rich.
When flying, the plane climbed well. However, The tank was rather full and Was very high when the engine stopped. The plane crossed the road and landed in the garden of my neighbour Hervé. That's about 500 meters from where the plane was launched in the field.
The plane must have hit a tree. Both wooden elevon retainers were gone and a small part of the wing got crushed.

Nice flight! I know your heart starts pounding when you realize the plane is way up there and headed away from where you’re at! Whoa, Whoa now come on back ! Glad you were able to find where it landed!

Thanks for your comments
I searched for it for a moment, but the blue wing was then quickly spotted in the grass. The arrow indicates were the plane disappeared above the trees as a small spot. That gave me the direction were to look.

I'd say that the model did very well! Better to sustain slight damage.. rather than be "stuck" (wedged) high-up in a tree where it's inaccessible.. or worse yet; lost to a thermal and swept-off to only God knows where..
You'll have to find a larger field now.. because "short-tanking" won't be nearly as thrilling as today's adventure!!

Better yet, plumb the engine to a large tank, set the rudder for straight flight and see if you can bomb London from Normandy.

Yeah. We'll call it Project V-3, Operation Overlord. See if we can catch Sadiq at City hall.

The repairs are easy. I'll cut out the rippled bit and replace it with a new piece of blue corroplast, glue the nose back on and replace the elevon wood things. I noticed I lost 2g of lead during testing but the plane seemed to fly just fine.

Soon I will take this one out of the closet. I need to find out why the engine stops so quickly after take off. Maybe I should ask SS Stubaf Wernher von Braun.

As to your fuel feed problem on gyro fan vertical take off set up, you might try substituting Medallion bottom ends on the two Tee Dees. There's a good chance the Tee Dee just doesn't have a enough natural fuel draw once the centrifugal force kicks in.

My mistake. That's just ONE Tee Dee with a dummy cylinder counter balance.

I repaired the wing by cutting out and replacing the damaged piece. Both balsa elevon retainers were remade of thicker wood. This gives a larger contact area for glueing. I added some iron wire to the nose cone. The cone was first butt glued only. The wire goes into the flutes to adhere better with the époxy.
