Ok. Found the old rocket stuff. However, there was no nose cone. So a piece of bamboo shiskebob skewer and a few laminated disks later:

Still working it...first coat of sealer top and bottom. I'll probably sand a bit tonight, seal more tomorrow am, and then work a color or two onto it to check compatibility with the sealer...Deft:

Only have to see the elevator hinge line and paint. Fuel cell is just a hotel shampoo bottle with a balloon on a fuel line in it.

Looks good, the plane that is, The weiner tank is suspect.

That wiener tank (giggle) is the "housing" for the JATO. I hope to have video of this. I may be able to stay upright for about 6 laps. If I make the whole ten, I'll consider this a success! The engine needs to be benchrun to find out how much fuel for 45-65 seconds. I hope that should be about 13 laps or so.

Can you tell me how does that dolly work , those holes in the wing look pretty tight for the plane to get out of ?

Hi Eric,

Just tonight the holes were enlarged and a bit of plastic control rod sheath/tube was super glued into each hole. The plastic tube should slide/release smoothly (I hope). I admit there will be no development time, nor desire to fine-tune...it flies, bores a hole in the ground or burns. No other options wanted or needed. One time flight only!

The uprights or pegs sit tilted back just a bit. I hope as long as neutral elevator is applied that the model will sit "under" the rearward tilt. Once UP is commanded, then the model will (hopefully) pivot on the back edge of the wing, this bringing the front off the pegs.

Elevator was sewn tonight too. Hopefully paint goes on tomorrow. Still need to make up a set of lines, find a rocket engine, complete my fuel cell/balloon cork.

Fuel cell? Right now it is a latex finger. I hope to find my son's water balloons.
I may try his braces elastics to minimize the bulk of a rubber band.

Water balloons are designed to bust. Too thin. Use a regular balloon.

Ok. Clock is ticking and time is almost out. But I will.co timue, even if I miss entry.

I mentioned earlier that I used Deft Sanding Sealer to seal the wood. I was concerned about AeroGloss over Deft. This morning's test sealed it! I will continue to use Deft in the front end of a build with a topcoat of AeroGloss...at least until I run into problems.

Jim , Did you find the rocket engine U wanted for it ? I take it were the paint pole is , is where the rocket engine will go .

I have to look in the BOTTOM box of childhood toys. ISTR a spare B6-x engine in there, and being too concerned about overhead traffic. I have an Air Base several miles north, and I'm under one of the corridors for the local airport.

Yes, the engine will go where the paint pole is. Both recip and chem engines have a smidge of down thrust and right thrust. I hope my SWAGs are good enough.

The stooge may need some bracing, and I have to rig a line path past the rocket nozzle. The intent is the rocket will burn through the "launch line" to release from the stooge.

Getting closer:

Ok...taking this one to the very end. Let's just say "Life has been busy!"

I plan on trying the release line around the front of the rocket pod, and behind the exhaust nozzle. The idea is the string burns through releasing the model and dolly from a stooge.
