So, the load-out is done...the fridge is cold and stocked with groceries...fresh water tank is full and holding tanks are empty...the Van is loaded with 7-8 R/C and an untold number of 1/2A Circle Turners...along with an .020-powered Midwest "Sniffer" and a Shrike car for good measure.

AND, at this 11th hour, the camper's running, brake, and tail lights are out!  I'd had it in the shop last week for this problem, and dropped some serious bucks for a new "module", with everything seeming OK.

Of course, the shop is closed today, so I'd have to delay at least for a day to hopefully get it fixed again.  Why in the world I need a computer board stuck in the back of my van to work the camper's lights is beyond this hillbilly's perception.

So...we're gonna run in the daylight hours and hope for the best.  It's a big ole trailer, so folks ought to be able to see it.

Yer right, driving in the daylight, people  should be able to see it! If you can check to see if you have the proper voltage coming off the Attack van. if so a quick stop at wally mart and pick up a set of “magnetic trailer lights” I’ve used them on my smallboat trailer after many hours of chasing shorts in the trailer wiring. I always feel safer when I know the Dork behind me knows I changing lanes!! Travel safe, have fun.

S.M.A.L.L. 2019...and still MORE S.M.A.L.L. Moments...Part 3 Empty Wednesday, May 29th !!!!

Post  Kim on Thu May 30, 2019 7:42 am

So, got the camper fixed, and STILL managed to leave on Tuesday!  Had to do some searching for a spot to camp as the flood waters have caused a general evacuation of RV parks around Little Rock.  Found one, and may be getting gouged a little bit on it's price, but am happy to have a high place to park!

Wednesday morning, headed out to the MARCS field, lead there directly by my GPS...no surprises this time!

Was not at all surprised to find Tony making laps with one of his Sticks, with Greg, Richard, and Thomas prepping their planes.

A bunch more stuff happened, and this post will be chocked with more photos as I try to keep up.

Time now to head out for THURSDAY !!!!!!!

Thanks Guys!

We had pretty strong winds all day yesterday...and storm warnings into the evening.  I stayed snug and safe in my little camper, listening to the driving rain. Big flooding with many people having to evacuate, so lots of bad stuff for the local folks.  Hope they get a break from this soon.

Today dawned with low clouds and occasional light rain that broke up into a beautiful day, with low winds that built as time progressed.  The wind was less today, but mixed with thermals that had my Lazy Bee and others pulling all kinds of aerial hijinks.  Tony was his usual self: tweaking, then flying several fast movers, along with a biplane that could pull vertical or float like a leaf.

Starting to download cards and will have photos in a bit.  There are also photos popping up over on RC Groups at:

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3147742-EVENT-MOVED-SMALL-2019-May-30-June-2-2019-%28Thr-Sun%29-North-Little-Rock-AR/page3

A big BIG THANK YOU to the Mid-Arkansas Radio Control Society for stepping up and saving our party !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

S.M.A.L.L. 2019...and still MORE S.M.A.L.L. Moments...Part 3 Empty Thursday !

Thursday started out gloomy, but turned beautiful, with crazy thermals knocking the light-wingers around, while others hardly noticed:

I think Thomas' "Sky Baby" is gonna have it's maiden flight on Friday:

Thank you!  I talked to the owner of the 51's and asked him to list it's features as if talking to a totally electric-ignorant person (me).

Here's what I got:
The Mustangs are from Flite test, and you can download their plans from FT's site, and there MAY be kits from there too.

The planes are foam board (the water-resistant stuff FT uses).

The batteries in these were 2200MH 3 cell units and the motors are 2212-13's (?).

I took a few extra photos:

Yes...Tee Bee---Troy---is in the middle of it! An RR-1 powered Sharkface, that little .010 rocket of his that I don't know the name of, and several others.

Got TONS of video and photos. Gonna start chipping away at it tonight!

I made it there, Eric, and oh what a time we've had! We have flown .010s, .020s, and .049s aplenty! There have been graceful flights mixed with a bit of carnage here and there. All par for the course. Tony A. helped me finally get my Big Block(TD .020) Tee Stik all trimmed out. It took some patience and several exciting tanks of fuel but paid off with some narly fast flights of the little 15" span beast. No one with much sense would want to fly it but I enjoyed it. Smile I flew the Sharkface all weekend with a Venom II .049 and had a ball but today, I swapped it out for the RR1 that I recently restored. It ran great like that and I offered a chance to fly it to any bystanders who desired to try it. Only Tony took me up on it. I loved watching him put my little hotrod plane through the paces and couldn't help but smile at the thought of us having so much fun flying a little vintage "collector" engine on a vintage design airframe. Some of the greatest highlights for me were simply flying the Minnie Mambos around the pattern with Kim. Today, we were joined by a couple of Q-Tees and before we knew it, a couple more .049 planes had joined the mix. For a brief time, the pattern was filled with 6 .049s flying in close proximity! It was beautiful to see and hear! We attempted it again later in the day. Just as it got really fun, things went sour. Kim and I turned downwind together and a few seconds later I heard someone's plane go THUNK onto the field. I glanced down just briefly to see who had crashed only to see it was MY plane! For several seconds, I had been "flying" Kim's bird while mine departed controlled flight. A few seconds later, another modeler got disoriented by the bright sun and also went in hard. At that point, Kim was in a real hurry to get his bird down before the bad luck infected him as well. So many great moments of flying and laughing! We're gonna do a bit more tomorrow before heading our separate ways. Comsidering that the event had to be canceled at the last moment due to flooding, the Plan B option turned out to be a big time.

"Wheeling and Dealing" at the MARCS Field!!

Great friend and fellow Castor Slinger Troy Black brought me a late 1960's Testor's "Skyhawk", AND a radio to stick in it!

The "4 Dollar Airplane" reference is from a line in a similar vintage movie, in which, the Skyhawk starred...about the only scene worth watching in the forgotten flick.

A handful of the hardest of the die-hards showed up again for some farewell flying this morning before the final packup. Kim put up a couple of beautiful flights on his Medallion .15-equipped Quaker. Tony entertained with several models featuring various Cox engines. Another Cox flyer, Guy from Cali, flew his scaled down .010 B-Tween and 70% .020 Sharkface all morning. I made my final flights of the trip with the Sharkface, Tee Stik .010, Tee Stik .020, and my UMX Pitts. During my last Tee Stik flight, I had a mild mid-air with the Flite Test P-51 that Kim featured above. My .010 prop sloced off the bottom of his rudder and shed a blade. We both landed without incident. By noon, we were done flying, packed up, had the host field cleaned up, and were saying goodbyes.

Here's Kim cruising by with his Quaker .15.

"A Pretty Righteous Time"!!!!

I rolled into the back yard about an hour ago, and brought my computer and my coffee pot inside (priorities). Everything else can park 'till tomorrow! Think my eyelids are sunburned...

This was a good one. Don't know the count on planes and pilots, but there was stuff happening the whole time, and while the first days were a challenge with winds and storms, we pulled off some amazing flights through the whole time.

There was a burst of of single channel (rudder only) this time, and a lot of relaxed piloting from lawn chairs !!

We're were talking about the Fall S.M.A.L.L. before this one was done, and I'm sure it's gonna be a hoot!!!

Photos and videos to follow!

Glad you arrived safely. Nick and I only made it as far as Shreveport, LA since we made an impromptu side trip to Gibsland to the site where Bonnie and Clyde were gunned down. We'll shoot for home tomorrow. I am stoked to see your videos! Dang, it sure was fun!

Bob, Kim stayed pretty busy with his camera when he wasn't wrenching or flying. I'm pretty sure he will be along with some epic pics and vids. It was honestly one of the best weekends of model flying I've ever had!
