Box 5 - The flea market PT-19
As received:

Cover box not too bad. Stupid electrical tape repairs will be replaced with white glue and the wrinkles ironed out. Bottom box is near perfect with a date of Sept 20 1994.

Saturday night bath a few days early. Household not concentrated Simple Green is easier on plastic and decals.

JB Weld repairs to fuel tank and fuselage. What was this guy thinking of.............

Basic differences between my PT-19 and flea market guy: Cockpit, fueling system, and wing attachments.

Five boxes, lot of flea market fun for thirty bucks.....

Would be interesting to hear the story as to why the JB Weld was needed. Maybe take-off or landing or a combination of both? The pictures of the Flight Trainers bring back many wonderful memories of the excitement of seeing them fly for the first time, along with the sound of the .049 and smell of the spent Cox fuel.
Great clean up Bob.

Re: Box 5 - The flea market PT-19
I have never had much interest in these PT-19's, but this one sent me to Mr. Google and some research.
Found a very interesting circa 2017 thread right here on the CEF. But I was mainly interested in discovering when or if they were produced in China. I never pinned that down but this was pretty complete.

From this I gather that my first PT-19 is an earlier version, and the Flea Market one is the later.......Definitely maybe!

Re: Box 5 - The flea market PT-19
I have the box somewhat repaired. Duct tape from the inside and a little Elmer's white glue. Not my best job. I glued the worst end and left the best end open. I cleaned the dirty/dusty box with diluted household Simple Green, let it dry well then sprayed it with Johnson's Pledge. Brightens things up.
Googling I found that Cox boxed these many different ways, most can be found displayed open so you can see how things were arranged. But not this one. The fuselage and wing are an easy ID but nothing else is. I would like to know how the engine and accessories were packed. Anyone have a picture of this particular boxing?

Oh by the way -never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never ever.............. boil a horseshoe engine.

But.....................I have an excuse.

Wow on that horseshoe engine. Poor thing. But I have to ask how or what you boiled it with. Was it an antifreeze bath, or something else? Just to know for the future. Thank you.

Yes, A/F crock pot boil.
Dropped it in a cold pot, turned the heat to high with the intent to remove it after fifteen minutes. Got involved with something else and forgot about if for a hour or so.
Terrible stuff to remove. The reed side expanded within the case along with the e-clip. I had to heat it with the heat gun and pull the stuff out with pliers. No harm done other than to my ego.
I have at least ten other horse shoe engines in colors, the majority being the white that came out of the PT-19. The vacant front ends will receive the badly anodized 8 cc tanks I got from Cox Int.
PS........
Anyone have a picture of that particular boxing?

I'm not a plastics tech, but if the back plate is made of Delrin (acetal) there are some idiosyncracies and industrial hygiene issues about melting and burning it.

Yes, it burns with an almost invisible flame with no smoke and releases formaldehyde gas when it does. It should not melt until at about 250F though

Re: Box 5 - The flea market PT-19
Yes!
The cover art is somewhat different and the tail section cardboard flap on mine doesn't allow the tail of the fuselage to go in as deep, and the front of mine is secured by a wire tie.
But it answers the question, where does the engine fit?.....So that is what the little "finger hole" is for on one side of the box. Thanks, that was my major concern.
And yes....Does that box say where it was made?
