EBAY TAXES
The Government had to get their Slimy little hands on this too. How can they Tax something that’s already been Taxed? I guess I’m done buying from The Bay now.

More like your state. About 4 months ago WV started adding 6% to internet sales, not just ebay.
A couple of days ago I was in the process of buying an antique Swiss rifle from one of my favorite vendors. Got to checkout and found an added $35 West Virginia sales tax. That plus another $35 shipping cancelled that sale right then. Seventy bucks for nothing, but it was the sales tax that was the killer. Recently read that WV has a budget surplus, now I know why.

Yup, I just got stung will Taxachusetts sales tax on a $20.00 Fox .15 evil bay purchase. They even applied the sales tax to the shipping charges.

Yup, it’s gonna be yard sales and Craigslist for the future. Most online sellers are being persuaded to collect tax in states they do business, Rock-auto, amazon, ebay got on board quickly. They (government) get raises, we get tax increases. Yup, it sucks.

The MECA Collecto show in Perry, GA requires vendors of used goods to fill out a Georgia state sales tax return.

Yep, it is getting stupid. I whole-heartedly agree, why should we pay tax on something used that has already had tax paid on it. Up here with vehicles even, no matter how many times it is sold, out insurance agency collects tax on the vehicle. Even if you a vehicle cheap and they do not like the price, they still tax you on market value! As well, local auction sales here also collect taxes on your purchases. I do not get it.

"I do not get it."
What's there not to get? They are your betters (the in crowd) and you are S.O.L. It's all really quite simple.

If you look up South Dakota vs Wayfair it gives a lot of insight into why things are the way they are.

Re: EBAY TAXES
From summary on SD vs. Wayfair:
On June 21st, the Supreme Court issued a long-awaited opinion on South Dakota v. Wayfair, INC. The Court ruled in favor of South Dakota against Wayfair and other large online retailers and overruled a landmark supreme court case from 1992 commonly called “The Quill’ case.
"other large online retailers"-- Like some widow trying to sell her husband's used model airplane stuff (that was very likely acquired in a taxed transaction) on ebay?

Re: EBAY TAXES
Been like this except private transactions in Ohio for as long as I know.
Cars get taxed every title change transaction, and don't list "gift" as you get taxed on the blue book value. "Sell" it for $1 if between family or friends.
Pawn, second hand, and junk shops.... Salvation Army... yup, sales tax.
I am not surprised to see it coming to Ebay...
but shipping is not supposed to be taxed.

New or previously owned goods? A real store or just some schmuck trying to liquidate his worldly possessions for some drinking money?

8.25% is a deal. We have 13% HST. The provincial and federal government both wanted their cut. (harmonized, was formerly goods and service tax and federal.) Then add the 37.5 % dollar difference, and the same total is $86.53 if I worked it out right.1/2A Nut wrote:Order total

That is another story. Basically it is great. Not without glitches. Often the waiting list is quite long, like a year, for the more popular ailments like a new hip or less urgent specialists. A sore hip or back still hurts when you are waiting a year for an appointment. We still have to pay for things that are not covered like varicose veins that don't hurt etc. Still fairly reasonable IMHO. The cost of doing model business is quite high though. Even a swap meet $20 engine is getting near $30 Canadian. You feel small, bargaining sometimes. $20 is not really $20 for us. I am sure the Aussies know exactly what I mean. A $100 motel room at an event with a state tax of 10% and 37 1/2% exchange premium makes a short stay sometimes. At least it limits the number of events you can attend in some cases that I am familiar with.1/2A Nut wrote:Order total

Our fearless leader here in Ontario has stopped coverage anywhere outside of Canada. I guess there will still be paperwork from private companies now. Now I have to pay $300 just to go to the Brodak meet for most of a week.

Re: EBAY TAXES
I have come to a screeching halt when it come to buying on ebay due to state sales taxes. Not eBay's fault, they were probably dragged kicking and screaming into this.
But I couldn't pass this one up and suffered the $15.60 additional sales tax. Made a low-ball offer on this Rivarossi FEF locomotive and cars and was surprised they accepted. Rivarossi made a big hit with this model which is simply beautiful especially in gray. A worthy exit to my ebay experience.
