The Chinese have long said of themselves:
We'll eat anything with four legs except a table and anything that flys except an airplane. That's comforting; my model collection and work bench are safe.

Victor, I was reading some of that link. Quite amazing how the progression from the 3rd of January until the end of the month shows how much distance the virus spread. I certainly can understand Putin's concerns.

Re: Elephant in the room
From the 19th / 14,316 cases to the time of my post in the US reported 27,207 cases
+ 12,891 more in just a few days. Likely far off from actual as so many are dealing with it
at home without going to the hospital.
America has gone from being the 9th highest cases last week to 4th place as today. By Monday or Tues
we will pass up Spain to take 3rd place. The question now is when will we hit the top of the curve for
the US. It could drag on another 1.5 - 2 months and likely be number 1.
More than 195,000 Americans have been tested wasting test kits out of fear.

reliable and widespread distribution of the new test kit is only a week old....there will be an predicted and expected spike of positive infections
data to end February was very understated and much was statistics not actual confirmed cases

Re: Elephant in the room
Our population is 330 million (third largest in world and too high). Spain is at a little over 40 million. On a per capita basis Americans do much more international travel to a larger variety of distant places than Spaniards (especially if localized border crossings to and from France are excluded in Spain's case).
Economic and social Globalism, demographics, population etc. all need a serious review.

Re: Elephant in the room
I didn't see anything offensive Tico said, I read it differently. I thought he was referring to the quantities of Covid-19 infections, US has moved into 3rd position worldwide, this is too high. Now, I don't know what it is per capita and perhaps our infected rate is lower. Spain for such a small country has a higher overall concentration of people, so this may explain the high rate for them?
Regardless, the fact is that it is here, and has already spread to all 50 states. Most flues die out with intensity when summer hot weather hits, will this one die out too? Singapore now has cases of Covid-19. They are right on the Equator where the temps hover between 90 to 100 F year round, so I guess that dispels the hot weather theory.
I guess I have been fortunate as all I have had over the past 10 years are colds, no flues. I can say though that this has been my worst respiratory allergy season in a long while. Both my wife and I have been having itching and coughing. My extremely irritated eyes have finally improved since the Juniper pine trees have tapered off from pollinating. But I am allergic to at least 12 different seasonal pollen, several each season, so I have allergies year round.

I’ll fix it. Just a reminder we are not supposed to be swearing in posts or bypassing the forum censorship function by using symbols.
I understand we all have strong opinions, but rules is rules.

In situations where I would get real colorful, I look
for a word that's miles away from what I was thinking,
like darn, or blessed, and put it in quotes. Like-He's
full of "beans".
The-but that's just me-Bob.

No profanity necessary here. As everybody has a opinion on this topic. No need to be crude about it. It's time for us all to be there for each other. Mark

Re: Elephant in the room
I wonder where this forum rule awareness was there on page 19 of "How is the weather" thread when - not so long ago - some of us raised our voice against open KKK racism and white supremacy of a member's statements and some others responded with cheerful winks while others intentionally diverted the conversation before a Moderator could have stepped in to serve justice. Some of us then, disgusted, contemplated to never come back to CEF again and did so..I made a compromise and stayed. The subject person is still a celebrated member and while he did not contribute to the spirit if this site but often offends others with his cynicism, he seems to be cheerfully tolerated no matter what he does.
With all this said, it is still I who feels embarrassed.

Andras, This "celebrated member" has been censured many times here and his recent offending post scrubbed from this page. Not all concerns are addressed here on the forum but rather through private PM's. I know that has been my route to take. Not sure what you mean by "cheerful winks."

Bob, no need to tear up scar tissue again, but Kari -who you may have realized has not been active here for some time and he has a reason - and I were gasping for air in pm-s sent to each other in our sheer amazement when reading the jovial reactions. Kari - much better at explaining himself in English than I - then wrote a summary opinion which I still agree with.

Then we certainly are in peril when good people remain silent and adjourn from the discussion.
I certainly am not known for my reticence here.

Re: Elephant in the room
So I try to get on every day, sometimes I cannot read every post so all of this is news to me. Or it’s something that has gone completely over my head.
Hopefully it was brought to Jacob’s attention or Rusty’s
If this is still a bone of contention, please let me know through PM so the right thing can be done.
