Re: Tribute Shoestring build
Ya...would have liked to have seen the build to this point! I have one still sealed in the box,but it appears it will now be a winter build. Stuck in the middle of a different build that got put on hold untiI I get moved.

Very cool!
One of my favorite Goldberg designs and the first plane I ever flew.
I have to ask about the wheels, they are huge! Alaskan bush version?

I am going to build another one from templates I have, I'll do a better job of documenting that one.OhBee wrote:Ya...would have liked to have seen the build to this point! Re: Tribute Shoestring build
Sorry Eric, I got carried away. I beefed up the bellcrank . I used one that was already made up . It was from a PT 19 arf that could be RC or CL. I made it RC so I had the bellcrank left over.getback wrote:Wow from box to palne LOL would have liked to seen the install of the bellcrank , i got one that was ready (all but the Enya 29 break in ) i was a kid and didn't have the resources for a elct, start . anyway the BC has came a loose and the tissues oof . Re: Tribute Shoestring build
Based on my hobby shop experience, I would say that in the early seventies, of all the mass produced .35 class profile stunter kits in a short box (i.e. two piece leading edge, two piece spars) with a $6.00 MSRP, the CG Shoestring was the best engineered kit to build with the best wood and best flying hands down.

I don't think so, as long as the model is going to be color doped. I believe it's rust from the can. I have about two cans that started to turn on me, so I repackaged them in Juan Valdez 12 oz. (by volume) instant coffee jars. (Walmart) The tops have a solvent proof foam plastic seal the works really well. As instant coffee goes, the contents are pretty good too.

Re: Tribute Shoestring build
One missing item I am noting is the balsa cheek cowl assembly on l/h side of fuselage and wing root. You really should have that in place before attaching the silkspan to the wing as it adds a lot of anti-motor vibration strength to the front end of the plane and needs to be firmly bonded to leading edge. Ditto for the fabric tape reinforcement along entire lengths of all four wing root joints.

Re: Tribute Shoestring build
Also, you really need to get your engine mount set up with blind nuts in place before doing the other stuff I mentioned. If in doubt about balance, go a little nose heavy--much easier to add tail weight.
Did you apply the silkspan wet ? Minor wrinkles can be dealt with (usually self-correct) in later coats of clear dope.
