Re: IAR.80 Build
HA only once did I frame up two right outboard wings and onec two inboards
and confusing is why your, supposed to be inboard wing half, doesn't have the flap/aileron structure...easy fix looks like
edited in...best fix is to finish the duplicate, then just build two inboards... one without flap/aileron for two complete wings

I am having a hard time thinking that that's the problem. If true, that is one huge mistake.

Re: IAR.80 Build
DONE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND...I dare say, I ALSO started construction of the first "Submersible Ken Willard Poolboy" !!
Working swing shifts at the diaper factory, I got fed up with chunks of my days being wasted, and set myself to start construction of my second Poolboy flying Boat, no matter how crumby I felt when i got home in the morning.
And I did, and I woke up in the afternoon to the situation in my photo. The view is looking at the Poolboy's hull/fuselage from the front...no more words needed, other than to say that this poor thing was quietly disposed of, while #3 was started...
So, no...you are not alone!

I can honestly say I've never built 2 of the same wing panel.
Let's not talk about fuselage sides....

This is actually by design, I build my wing first, cut off the ailerons later. I find it easier to build the wing straight that way.

Ok then.
Most of the time I can't tell my right hand from my left either.

Yellow glue or Sig-ment?
If yellow glue, build the second plane at the same time.
If Sig-ment, raid the acetone jug and flip everything.

Re: IAR.80 Build
As tempting as the "flipping" option sounds, it's a no-go: I'm using CA.
So I guess I'm building two airframes now

Re: IAR.80 Build
I am happy to say my CA confession has not inspired an angry mob to appear in front of my home wielding pitchforks and torches
Thanks to Fred and Andrew I am now building not one, but two of the same models at the same time, which is a first for me. I have rough-finished the two wing sets, narrowly avoiding building three right wing panels by mistake. I invested around 2h into each panel, and there are easily two more hours in each of them, not counting the covering. I am pretty happy how they turned out, but I've about had it with building identical wings over and over, and I'm ready to move onto other parts of the build(s). Sadly, next comes my least favourite part of any build - the ailerons. I think to save time I will investigate building them out of trailing edge stock rather than building them up, which is always labour-intensive and extremely fiddly.
Not sure when will the next update be, as my side projects keep distracting me. Or maybe this is the side project

Re: IAR.80 Build
Hello Friends,
looks like I haven't posted for a while.
I spent my summer flying full scale:

flying models:
building guitars:

and doing tons of other things, but I've finally got back to stick and tissue:

The fuselage on the IAR 80 has a really funky shape and I actually built 3 before I got one I was happy with. I've made a half-hearted attempt at drawing panel lines on it. The wings are secured to the fuselage by magnets. There's a sort of a frankenbee at the front, thrown together from good parts of not-so-good engines. The weight is a pretty good 213g, with just the bottom fuselage and the canopy missing.

Re: IAR.80 Build
Yep...did it with a fairly expensive kit at the time.
Think of this is an omen that you should build a biplane.

Welcome back, Dirk.
Nice plane. I took 3 lessons in a Schweizer 2-33
back in the early eighties, in Rosamond when I
lived in L.A. Quite an experience.

Re: IAR.80 Build
Bob,
Many years ago while I was on a company trip to Edwards AFB CA. I took a glider lesson at a little field near Pearblossom CA and had a wonderful flight in a two place glider (Schweizer?) there, but can't even locate that field on a map now?
I was so impressed with that flight that I checked into the local glider clubs near the Seattle/Tacoma area where we lived at the time but never followed up on that, as work at Boeing got in the way. Working 12 hours per day, and 7 days per week during systems validation testing didn't leave much time for recreation.

Re: IAR.80 Build
Thanks guys,
today, to celebrate the closing of the season, I maidened the model:
The takeoff was a bit dodgy, but it it's a good flyer once it picks up some speed.
Full disclaimer, I crashed it on the second flight. It's ok though, if I learned one thing around here, it's that they fly better the second time around. They don't look better, but they fly better.
