Could you post a picture of the engine ? There are a lot of .049 McCoys but I never seen a .5 . I might have a needle for you .

Re: McCoy .5 parts
I have to check my McCoy stuff . Might have some thing that will work . I have the Diesels but no glows but most of those early glows and diesels used similar needles . Got to go check some old parts . Maybe a Wen Mac needle ass. would work .

Re: McCoy .5 parts
Found some needle valves . Tried them in one of my McCoy diesels . They all seem to have the same thread size but the tips of the needles very a bit in shape and size .I think a Wen Mac , Atwood , or Holland Hornet needle might work for you . You might consider pressing out the whole assembly and replace it with one from a donner Wen Mac . One thing I remember about these early .049's is they leak air around the needles and need the fuel tubing seal or one of those little black needle seals that Cox engines use . I will try to measure the thread size for you . You might be able to make a needle from a small screw .

Re: McCoy .5 parts
Ok Just checked some needles and this is what I found out . The best that I can tell my McCoy diesels use a 1-72 N.F. tread as does the Pipe bomb engine with the White tank ,the Wen Macs , the Atwoods and Wasps and possibly the Testor engines . The tips are tapered but blunt on the end on the McCoy , the rest have a cone shaped tip . I could not tell you what the tapper is on the needles but I think that they would all work to some degree ,they are all very close in design . Hope this helps you in your quest to run your McCoy Let me know if you can't find a substitute needle .

Re: McCoy .5 parts
those will work, does the glowhead work or are you gonna tap it for a short glowplug?
Re: McCoy .5 parts
NO Mark it don't , just tried it
And its tight as the devil too . OK Mike i have Atwoods and that's not going to work Had some Testers but i think i got rid of all them ,, Wen Mac maybe i will have to do some digging into my onehellofamess
Thanks again that is pretty much what i needed to know is a interchange possible , and a press is not out of the question , i got a wild hair there .

Re: McCoy .5 parts
I think the 5 had the insert type of plug that may be hard to find. Good luck on that one .

I was searching the web for Testors info. just this morning.. and saw these images. I'd never seen these types of glo-plugs before.
The #1 looks like a "short" and there is an eBay auction in PA (see link)

https://www.ebay.com/i/202989195614?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=202989195614&targetid=884131267673&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9002197&poi=&campaignid=9248481087&mkgroupid=99428154928&rlsatarget=pla-884131267673&abcId=1141156&merchantid=115282818&gclid=CjwKCAjwtqj2BRBYEiwAqfzur_0BOi4O1JtBriHVo-j24amVf885aWiXiA2hHf1Bc3c9Knj00nABaBoCQuAQAvD_BwE
Here is a photo of a #3 "long" type..

Hey, the one time that something interesting and affordable comes up locally, and I don't have any use for them

Re: McCoy .5 parts
lol, i just woke up and realized or think that glowhead is actually an Atwood 'Shriek' head, that somebody attached...if that's the case (or head) you might be able to use an early Wen-Mac head and a short glowplug???
Re: McCoy .5 parts
Wow Thanks Mark , The Wen Mac i took the needle from has a insert that may work , i haven't had time to take the head off yet maybe today . I see Meco has the Shriek heads in stock 9.99 if things don't work out . Of coarse it would bee the next of never getting one LOL
