Cox Recon Model
Hello,
I was just wondering what the deal with the Cox Recon is? Is it just a free flight version of the EZ-Bee II with a hole in the side of the fuse for the disposable camera to go into?
I'm wondering if anyone has converted one to RC and put a modern camera in one?
thanks,
Jess

Re: Cox Recon Model
I did not do a side by side comparison of the Recon to the EZ bee, but I believe the fuse is thicker (taller) on the Recon to accommodate the Camera. Also the EZ Bee used the QRC style engine where the Recon has the plastic nose with the only tanked version of the SureStart engine. It’s a small capacity tank to prevent flyaways while reconning your neighborhood!! With the availability of much smaller and lightweight receivers and servos, it would be EZ to convert one to RC!

Re: Cox Recon Model
Oh wow, that's pretty interesting. Now I want to get both an EZ bee and a Recon to compare. I like the color scheme on the Recon. Always thought it would be neat to have a cox powered FPV plane. Assuming the engine is able to stay on, one could have a pretty long running FPV plane if one had a large fuel tank.

Re: Cox Recon Model
Well the difference is not as much as I imagined.
EZ bee has a 55” wing span, Recon is 41”
EZ bee fuse 4.25” tall vs Recon at 5”
If you remove the “RC camera” from the Recon there’s plenty of room to install a modern micro sized Rx and servos.

You would also have to install hinges and rudder/elevator to the stabilizers:

Search for some of Kim’s flight videos. He is a expert ( thru many experiences) at mounting video cameras utilizing sticks and scotch tape!! FPV is the only way I could fly a plane on RealFlight, so it would be awesome to try in a model.

Re: Cox Recon Model
Oh wow, thanks for taking the time to compare the two. This really is helpful in understanding the differences. When I talked to someone else on a different forum they told me it was just a repurposed EZ Bee. It clearly is much different. I think it would make a good RC conversion candidate. When I get my hands on one I'm definitely going to do the conversion. Maybe even put a small FPV camera in it to keep with the spirit of the Recon.
