Sig 10% Castor Fuel Order

Sig 10% Castor Fuel Order
Just a note about Sig's 10% fuel---which I've been going through lately.
I put in an order late Monday for 5 quarts of 10%/nitro 25% castor fuel and just got it today.
With postage to my place, the total came to $56.80...which comes out to 11.36/qt.

Kim --
Do know if they are shipping balsa at this time? I've read that some orders have been held up for a while.
Not a bad price on fuel, BTW.

Well, I don't know. I had the phone handy and shot them a quick call, but they closed an hour ago.

Re: Sig 10% Castor Fuel Order
I contacted them a few months ago asking if they were going to offer anymore airfoil balsa in 4 & 5" sizes, said all balsa shipments from their supplier were halted due I guess to covid. Hopefully that has changed.

I had read elsewhere that much of the available balsa has been bought up by the wind turbine blade manufacturers -- it is used as core material. However, I think the newer blades are being built with a composite honeycomb material.
In the mid to late nineties, sailboats were also being built with balsa as a hull and deck coring material, but with its tendency to rot with water incursion, it too is being replaced with more resistant composites.
Does anyone have a favorite balsa supplier??

Re: Sig 10% Castor Fuel Order
It's all true what I just read encourages me During the last three years or more the materials became difficult to find Many good models have become discontinued Find a plane artf made of balsa Is very hard especially the smallest one so i hope To Find Smaller model better suited for 1 \ 2A I Need Som NITRO all i Find is 20% bugy fuel wit 15% oil bad stuf
The store with which I do business its retailer with horizon I believe he said to me that he had dificult it with the supply of nitro fuel extra cost ?? I'll tell them to see with sig to see

Re: Sig 10% Castor Fuel Order
David, that 20/15 buggy fuel should do great if you spike the castor oil up a smidge. These engines need some castor...not ALL castor. These little engines will run ok on 15% nitro. Testors sold 10% castor at one point.
Can you tell us what the oil is? Some of the buggy fuels are 50/50 synthetic to castor. Others are more synthetic vs castor. In the end, the mixed blend is what is represented in the oil percentage quotes. I like finding helicopter fyel because it is high nitro, low oil...and the oil tends to be full synthetic.
A bit of 30/10 fuel, a splattering of straight methanol, a shake or two of castor makes a 22% nitro, 18% oil...and the oil is synthetic-heavy, but not by much. In other words, enough nitro to run well, enough oil to cool well, and enough castor to protect piston sockets and conrods (both ends). Shoot, at this level of nitro, feel free to start adjusting compression ratios by using no head gasket, or the thinnest head gasket(s) in the bag (if you keep them in bulk).

Kim,
That's a great price for a good stick of fuel for quite a while!

Re: Sig 10% Castor Fuel Order
With 20% to 22% oil with the car the most nitro possible The least possible sintetic oil And synthetic wit castor oil 50 50 Find its best But with the excess oil I need more nitro The car needs more oil because it's under pressure Not exactly like an airplane works very well with 20% Enough to lose control and roll over After several run the engine seems to be working well The outside temperature at this time required bit more To Keep the engine at an acceptable temperature
