Charlie Watts, drummer of The Rolling Stones died at the age of 80
I am not just regretting the demise of an excellent musician of the - to me - greatest ever rock band, but I will also miss him as one of the icons of dependable and lasting performance in general . R.I.P Charlie.

Very sad. The Rolling Stones are one of the best. I have been listening to a lot of older songs of theirs lately and it's just amazing how diverse their music is/was.
RIP Charliey Watts.

Well, Charlie was of my generation, or I his. Always sad to see that.
But the Stones were also of my generation, as were the Beatles, Hermans Hermits, etc. etc. and I never got any of them. Not my cup of tea, english or otherwise. None of them ever lived up to the American bands of the era. IMHO!
I am however bonkers over the Seekers. Australians, oh yeah.

Not a big Rolling Stones fan, but still sad to see how the ”Great Ones” of rock music go one by one. The Rolling Stones will never be the same without the cool gent behind the drums.
I sort of hope Jagger and Richards would just call it a day and disband the band instead of continuing without Charlie Watts.

I think that as long as the remaining members, especially the core Jagger/Richards duo enjoy what they do and produce what their fans like, they should stay active. We saw some other members - some because of death like Brian Jones, some others because of burnout like Mick Taylor then Bill Wyman - leave, then replaced by other musicians who sooner or later integrated and even surpassed their predecessors in the band - like Ronnie Wood.
But we saw other bands like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc. loose key members then stand up and do it all over again. The rock and blues genres of music are ageless: Chuck Berry, BB King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and others remained active into their 70-s and even 80-s as still are Buddy Guy and other brilliant musicians .
So I cross fingers that Jagger and Richards will continue..

I saw the Stones on my 16th B-day in the 70s cost 15$ My friend had 2 tickets and charged me/my dad 20$ I had to BEG for the $$$$ and got to go with my good buddy that charged me more than the ticket cost (( I still rag him when i see him to this day !!)) It was great ! we got within 1 fat chic of the stage and there was NO getting around her LOL Greensboro Coliseum home town ,, It was great they Jammed and Loud Too , When we left my shirt had grew 6" longer with sweat . The good old days I grew up with them and the Beatles and others Rock Bands of that error , had a cheap set of drums i used to play to music with . Good thing the neighbors were pretty far away ! Rip Charlie Watts He gave his life to music Thank You !! https://rovrocks.iheart.com/content/2021-08-24-tom-morello-flea-the-black-keys-and-more-react-to-charlie-watts-death/

Great Memories Eric!
Andras, I am pretty sure the remaining guys will continue on. It’s just that (to me) The Stones’ groove comes from the drums and the bass and how they play together. Charlie Watts picked the new bass players for the band. He was a jazz guy at heart, so maybe that has something to do with it.
I am sure they can find someone to replicate Charlie Watts, never replace. In any case, that new drummer is going to have some big boots to jump into in order to become the new ”cornerStone” of the band.
RIP Charlie Watts.

I also saw them couple of times in Europe, including our capital Budapest, and the last time in 2017 in Austria where a 95 000 strong audience drenched soaking wet in the dense September rain...was an experience...plus I got a speed ticket from the Austrian state troopers on my way home to Hungary...but it was worth it !!

Charlie was a huge jazz aficionado, and played in a few side groups.
His fit in the band was perfect, but his passion lay elsewhere.
