O&R engine serial numbers.
O&R engine serial numbers.
Does anyone know if the serial number on old O&R engines contains any information such as year of manufacture and displacement.
Thanks.
Dave

Re: O&R engine serial numbers.
I do not think so, but with a photo or two might could ID it by its features in the reference manual.

Re: O&R engine serial numbers.
I'm not responsible for the making of this list, I remembered it from years back and saved it. I'm a big O&R fan.

1941 Special W/common tank & BB only #1228 to 4675
1942 Special as above #5998 to 10654
1945 & 46 Special as above #10843 to 030971

1948 Mounting lugs back & have holes in mounting lugs. All else same as 1947 #055749 to 067219

Last of the .60 sideport engines #073145 to 077766
1950 on is FRV 1st production natural alum. head. No tank, 1/4" plug #078891 to 080830
on to # 081742 Purple.

Looking for some help on this 60
I have a O&R 60 that was given to me when I was a kid from a family friend who was into model planes and such. I never used it. It sat in a box with some original paperwork and what looks like paperwork from other related things. I have had it about 42 years I’m thinking.
The serial number is 073038. Trying to just confirm it’s age. I read the post from Ken Cook with the numbers but something wasn’t matching up. Not sure if it’s from 1949 or maybe 1948.
Any help would be great.
I have pictures just tr

Re: O&R engine serial numbers.
The glow plug was invented in late 1947. Seeing that your engine still has a ignition timer , your model is earlier. Once the glow plug was invented, that changed the hobby. O&R sold two types of conversion kits. You could convert the engine from a side port to a front rotary valve and you plugged the side of the case with a cork.
They also sold a kit to delete the front timer assembly. A cover took it's place when removed and you ran it on a glow plug.
I believe the .60 had quite a few years of production starting from about 1941.
