Re: Engine carnage AE 15
It is typical of these engines High revolution plus lack of oil The connecting rod bushing becomes loose to avoid this problem, using castor oil help It is inevitable after 10 gallons of nitro with only 9% oil I have engines like this one it takes a very long time before having to change the piston well before the connecting rod m'y is at its 2 piston on the same rod so far m'y engine run just fine wit a minimum of 15%nitro and 14% oil mix of 50 x50 castor and synthétique oil
You can see the piston is still new after several tank its à Good engine if tuned correct litle trick dont try To extract To mutch rpm keap it ritch on the hi speed neadle est the low for a Good response

Strange question but could you measure the distance between the two holes of the conecting rod it is for a project that would avoid disassembling mine to check me maybe that other conecting rod has the same diameter mabe it can fit this engine

I had difficulty making this piece but I would change for another so I check with different model to see which model could be adapted ??!!!

Re: Engine carnage AE 15
Hi David, you bet I can measure the rod for you. It's pretty bad though, the upper joint is wallowed out too. I could maybe get you an inside to inside measurement.
I don't really know the back story know this engine. Im not the original owner of it. I did always use a nitro heater to help reduce the stress on the rod. Get it up to operating temp before tunning and always ran it ritch.
I didn't know the engine grenaded when it went. The jolt popped the clutch holder clip off. I thought maybe that killed the engine. So I put it on the starter box to run the fuel out. Didn't work right, that's when I clued in there was dngine failure. I might of hurt the piston when I did that, bug probably didn't matter. Yeah there was gallons left on the top end too it had great compression still. A bit bummed but that's what happens with used stuff:lol!:
I just got it running nice too when it went. I was using 30 nitro 12% oil synthetic/castor blend. Which is more like 20% nitro at my elevation.

Ok here is the measurements.
The piston pin OD: 3.50 - 3.48 mm
The crank pin OD: 3.90 - 3.88 mm
The inside spacing of the rod is: 19.95 mm
I put the bushing back in to estimate the rod spacing.

I think I can make a new piston on the lathe.... man I gotta fix that thing so I can start trying things. It looks simple but the material matching won't be.

Re: Engine carnage AE 15
M'y engine has the sg crankchaft parts 2a no 29006 maybe it would be cheaper to find a used spare engine? Although the parts are affordable and is also available

Re: Engine carnage AE 15
Thanks David, I ended up buying a SH18 to replace this engine. There's a bit more life in it maybe, the crank was skating in the bearing races as well upon closer inspection last night. I might give it up as a part motor to some one. We shall see.
