Eyedropper style fuel tank for TD .010

Eyedropper style fuel tank for TD .010
Is it possible to use an eyedropper style fuel tank instead of the usual tank mount with a Tee Dee .010 engine? I would like to limit the engine run for small free flight model. Thanks

Eye Dropper should be just fine. Small, lightweight, and a good visual sight of fuel level before release, should prevent any OOS flights!

Re: Eyedropper style fuel tank for TD .010
Thanks. Do you know if there is any special set up needed for a .010 TD style engine to use the eyedropper tank? For instance, do I still use the .010 tank mount and rout the fuel line tubing a special way from the fuel tank to the eyedropper or should I use the non-tank engine mount and just the eyedropper as the sole fuel tank? Is there a need for an air vent in the eyedropper tank?

Others may chime in with their experience, but as far as I know there is no "special" set up. At the end of his You-Tube video Josh explains how tipping the eyedropper a little forward made the engine run better. Ken built and lost a great little Dakota using just an eyedropper tank. Using the TD010 tanked or untanked mount is personal preference or weight savings or dimensional for engine or needle valve location. So, if the engine is mounted with the tank you can just run the fuel line from the dropper to the intake of the needle valve, no problem.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Tried it and I don't think the fuel is being drawn into the engine. The engine turns over with a prime but does not run through fuel that is in the eyedropper and the fuel line. I cleaned up the engine so all of the openings are clear. The examples that you sent are non-TD Cox engines so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Re: Eyedropper style fuel tank for TD .010
I don't use my TD .010 too much. Keep the fuel line as short as possible. If your eyedropper has a bulb on the top, you need to drill a hole in the top. Make the hole larger than needs to be because the rubber will spring back and somewhat self seal the hole. You can use the bulb as a primer. Pull it up and then put your finger over the hole and push it back down and you should see the fuel move up the fuel line. Continue to do so until the fuel is just entering the spraybar nipple and then prime and proceed to start. If the eyedropper is too low, this can also cause issues in getting the fuel to the engine and if too high, the fuel will self siphon into the spraybar faster then you can get it running.

Appreciate the information Ken. I'll give it a try.
I just realized that I posted this in the "non Cox engine " section. I will have continue it in the Cox section.

Re: Eyedropper style fuel tank for TD .010
Hello- just following up on the eyedropper topic that I brought up. I ended up using a modified 5ml syringe as the basis for the 010 fuel tank instead of an eyedropper. The good news is that it works very well. Thanks to all of the input and information that I gathered from this and other sites I was able to come up with a compact, lightweight design. I am using it on an 010 version of a 1962 free flight design called "Fluff". Not sure how to add photos to this topic.

Looks Good , was this a kit ? Like the way you got the syringe wedged between balsa? Is that fuel proofed too Looks bare.

Re: Eyedropper style fuel tank for TD .010
Sorry for the delayed response. The 010 "fluff" was not a kit. I had the plans. 1/2A/A full size Fluff design was published in Model airplane news back in 1962. It was also scaled for 020 and 010. I know because my father, Tony Faranda, was the designer.
Yes I did fuel proof the balsa syringe tank holder area. But I left it bare wood rather than covering it with tissue.
