Norvel .061 in RC boat

Re: Norvel .061 in RC boat
well I tried out the Sk Daddle Jr over the weekend with the new glow plug configuration and had limited success. The motor stayed running until I launched the boat then slowly pulled away from the dock and cut out. Tried it again and made sure the motor would idol and rev on shore and launched again and did the same thing.
I suspect that the prop I am using is too large and has too much pitch. I am using a 27mm prop 1.498 total pitch. This prop is a surface prop and the Sk Daddle Jr uses a submerged prop setup so I suspect the Norvel .061 just doesn't have the torque to keep the prop spinning. My next time out I will try the supplied Dumas prop which is quite a bit smaller. Time will tell.

Re: Norvel .061 in RC boat
Prop is too big. Years ago, we had a small wood runabout fitted with a Cameron 0.099. Same problem; get it started and it quit when it hit the water. Since you have throttle control, start with a smaller prop and work your way up to an acceptable rpm (without blowing up the motor form over revving).

Re: Norvel .061 in RC boat
Per pg. 1, will need 24mm / can mod the 27mm - area and blade thickness is not ideal.
Would require the Norvel .074 to run the 27mm prop near stock.
De-tongue sharpen and balance. Need to see the back of the mono to help further.
The white nylon 1/2A dumas prop is 1"x 1" can be ran in stock form insure you don't loose it.
I use a nylon locking nut. It is not drive dog friendly. Rather a simple pin.
I have a few metal 1/2A props; JG props and Dumas 1" also the white Dumas plastic ones.
The Oct 0930 can be cut down 0925 and shaped for surface running does well.
Engine unloads fast, pushes the boat on top quick and scats out of town in a hurry but total
top end speed will be less than possible via other props with more pitch.
Speed prop modified surface running with a Picco .05 outrigger. / made best pass 36,902 rpm / 70 km/h - 43 mph
The Oct 0930 cut down for 1/2A power did well - turned it into a surface prop.
Picco .05 / loaded 39,722 rpm 38mph / 1.19P / 30% nitro and tuned pipe.

This is my Cox speedboat
Since the motor cannot be throttled, the crate can also take corners at over 30 km/h (measured). 18.6 mph
The boat is extremely robust and unsinkable.
