Happy Rubber Band Engine Mounts

Post  Yabby Tue Nov 01, 2022 6:26 am

I was looking at the recent thread(s) on the Cox PT 19 which made me recall how we used to have engines mounts that used rubber bands. I did a search of the forums and found some mounts people had designed and used. As far as model planes go, I feel ok with Engines but the rest is all very new learning ground. My main thought was that if I use rubber band engine mounts it should be easy and quick to swap engines when and if needed. Also I think simpler build effort once templates are down pat. Thought is to use this method for Surestart style engines with TD cylinders..... not for TDs. Ive quickly knocked up some rough templates from which I will probably make some to actually try out. Pictures below. If they are total rubbish or a mod/change would be beneficial please advise. Photos below show the individual pieces, then the two combined as the firewall and then the engine helicopter mount on a piece ontop of the firewall as it would be on the plane. the two pieces used for the firewall allow the bolts from the helicopter mount to recess.

In my mind the basic idea seems good, but if you have experience of these type of mounts, good or bad, it is beneficial for me to hear it and be able to consider it with what I am trying to do.
