resto project

resto project
its got a Cox on it, i might get to work
of course it came with some others, they will need a little more work
there are 2 stardusters and one i'm not sure what is, a Square Eagle (rubber powered)
and 3 other sets of wings, no fuses.
definitely a Galaxie and an Orbiteer - i think the third set is another starduster.
yeah, I have some resto work in front of me....

Briar patch Charles. Brer Rabbit, don't throw me in there.
Love that stuff, I envy you. Tissue and sticks. Strongly reminds me of a similiar treasure trove given to me in my early teens.
Hope to see some reporting on those.

Re: resto project
a few months back, I fell in with a truly disreputable group of humans. I went to a swap meet for the Oakland Cloud Dusters. an old old flying club out here in the bay area - http://www.oaklandclouddusters.org/
they have the same issue MOST flying clubs have. everyone is aging out of the hobby, or dying off. Leaving the question "what do we do with Mr. Xs stuff?" at 58? I am the "young guy", much to the delight of the 60 yr old who is happy to no longer be "the young guy"
Well, this hoard of planes fell into another guy's lap. He said "buy some, I'll give you so much more"
and now I am in the FF restoration part of the hobby. It is truly amazing to see the skill and craftsmanship that went into some of these ships. since its mostly 1/2A sized stuff? perfect for the lot of cox motors I've built up.
a teeny HLG came with the batch, that was my first resto out of this batch. Patched a divot in the wing, and flew it behind the office yesterday
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/0wJyopOzdXo
this flight? is actually my free flight "goal" - get them to go UP - then gentle circles as they come back.
I also started on a P-30 "Square Eagle" last night, its a rubber band powered free flight kit, that shares the same issues as most of the other planes in the photo. They are OLD. the doped tissue just crumbles in my hands. I need to strip them down, clean them up, sand the frames, then recover.
Downloaded and printed full size plans for:
Geodetic Galaxie
Orbiteer
Starduster 350
that are the planes I have most of the parts for. I'll start one at a time, with the fuse that is closest to ready-to-go. A Starduster 350. It has the DT timer and Fuel timer, both working.
the lot came with a TD10 on the red plane, 2 TD .049s and 1 OS .25
I already have some TD .049 runners. so I'll work on fuel systems, timers, etc, and see if I can get at least one of the Starduster 350s ready to go.
I'll try to update here.

Nice, Love simple gliders…Be careful with your arm though… I cat launch mine now…
Yes, kind of a sad reality on aging club members… Our club disbanded a long time ago for that reason….

Re: resto project
if ya watched the video with sound? my 16 yr old pointed out right after I tossed it, I groaned!
yeah, Cat Launch is easier...
Doc says MRI shows 4 tears in left rotator cuff, and significant bone damage/degeneration on ball,
but not YET enough to really justify surgery....
so more PT for me
