Vintage Tiger muffler/silencer for the Enya .09 or Enya .09-II engine.
Vintage Tiger muffler/silencer for the Enya .09 or Enya .09-II engine.
A few months ago, I was able to receive an old Enya .09-II from a friend for misc. work I've done for him over the years.
Of course, it was rather dirty and gummed up (stuck).
The engine had a muffler on it that I have never seen before. It was not an Enya muffler/silencer?
On the band it was stamped "Tiger"
Well, I cleaned up the engine and posted the cleaned-up engine here a couple months ago.
If no one remember, here is the engine again.

I also emailed Ken Enya about the muffler and any information about it.
The muffler/silencer was only made a couple of years for Enya for their Enya .09 and Enya .09-II engines.
Next thing I know Ken Enya had one available (NIB) and "IF" I was interested in purchasing it?
I told him "YES" and I didn't care what the cost was going to be.
Well, the cost of the muffler/silencer was almost $30.00 (USD) --- not bad?
I asked if he could add that muffler in with the parts that I requested for some engine repairs.
This was to reduce the cost of just shipping that muffler over from Japan to the USA.
Today, I received the parts along with the "new inbox" Tiger muffler/silencer.
Below are the photos of the Tiger muffler/silencer along with the English translations of the instructions.

I remember you showing that engine and muffler you were working on a little while back, sosam117. Muffler seems to be a very nice unit, a little unusual with its painted stamp steel manufacture. Until you showed it, I had never seen one before.
The instructions in English reflect that someone who did the translation obviously did not speak English enough to get fluent at it. Occasionally I have even seen that with recent Chinese manufactured items, like my fitness watch and a few others.

I'll add this muffler onto my old Enya .09 engine that I rebuilt a few months ago.
Then it will be like my vintage Enya .09-II.

Yes, things sometimes just don't translate.
The section that has the word "kvalp" talks about the nipple for the priming of the engine.
inside the muffler is a piece of tubing that stop just outside the exhaust port for easy priming.
I think what it says in the instructions:
Easy start-up thanks to the "kvalp" (probably really means primer nipple?)

It does seem fitting to add this to the pre-II/III/IV engine. It wasn't until later that Enya developed factory mufflers. I gather that this is the first single exhaust port .09 that Enya manufactured?

The Tiger muffler will not fit the Enya .09-III engines and on.
By the time Enya had the .09-III out, they were making their own mufflers.
And they changed the design a little bit.
The Tiger muffler has a lip that goes inside the exhaust port to line it up with the engine an makes a seal (no gasket)
On the Enya .09-III, Enya made a design change for a use of a baffle plate.
So, the Tiger muffler no longer could fit inside the exhaust port and like you said, Enya started to make their own mufflers.
See my Enya .09-III new in the box and the newer exhaust exit:

The 1st Enya .09 did not have throttle control.
The 2nd version did and that came out in the early to mid 1960's, just before Enya came out with the Enya .09-III.
And that was only for a year or so.
In the 60's and 70's Enya was coming out with engines changed every year (it seems).
I have an original Enya .09 that a good friend that I have known for most of my life gave me about 5 years ago.
He originally purchased it when he was stationed in the US Air Force from 1956 to 1962.
Jack, (my friend) told me the history of the engine while he had it (great story).
Anyway, he purchased the engine in 1960 and used it for u-control.
Jack told me that was the 1st time he saw the Enya .09 (Model 3001) and was newly released engine from Enya.
He said also the reason he bought it was because it only cost less than $1.25 but it looked to be a well-built engine.
Here is the Enya engine Jack gave me:

The engine is not exactly pristine.
When I got the engine from Jack, it was missing the needle valve.
The original should have like a coiled spring type needle valve and not the ridged one that I have.
Also, the screws that are holding the head are newer screws because the old screws were so bugger up, I was barely able to remove the head to clean the gummed-up engine.
I could not find the correct size screws to match the originals, so I had to settle for the current screws I got from Ken Enya.
The screws on the front housing are the original screws.
I was able to use the Enya .09-III gaskets for the front housing/crankcase assembly as they are the same.
One piece of information for you guys looking for Enya mufflers.
Enya and O.S. had a company that was making mufflers for them.
So, an O.S. muffler might fit your Enya engine that was made in the early 1998 and on?
If you don't mind it not having "Enya" on the muffler?

As a reference:
My one Enya 80XF has on it the O.S. 744 muffler
The three Enya I have: the 60XF-II, III and IV are all fitted with the O.S. 744 muffler.
On two of my Enya .09-IV, they have the O.S. 761 muffler mounted on them.
I would take a guess if the muffler for a O.S.-30 may work on an Enya SS-30?
The O.S. 761 muffler fits the O.S.-.10
Well, my secret is out for getting mufflers for my Enya engines now
