049 Cylinder and pistons now available again
We are pleased to announce that we now have available a limited quantity of 049 cylinders and pistons. We hand-match them and they generally have exceptional compression. They are available here:
SPI version: https://coxengines.ca/top-end/cox--049-tee-dee-cylinder-and-piston.html
Non-SPI version: https://coxengines.ca/top-end/cox--049-cylinder-and-piston.html
Simply add to cart, together with whatever else that you would like (combined shipping).

Thanks, Bernie. Also looks like you have blued the cylinder re-machined exhaust port on the modified ones for SPI.

No, not re-blued, as they are not modified cylinders. They were manufactured from scratch, using OEM Cox Tee Dee 049 drawings.
The pistons were manufactured to a tolerance of .003 mm (3 microns), and therefore perfect for hand-matching to cylinders. I pressed conrods into a couple of dozen this afternoon and matched them to cylinders. Compression on many, if not most, was about the same as the Tee Dee ones from the 70's and 80's (pre-Estes). The biggest issue for reed-valve engines will be over-compression; but that's a good problem to have and easily fixed

Re: 049 Cylinder and pistons now available again
Wow! New cylinders!
It may mean performance on the reedies may be more than satisfactory with the standard compression heads, and the need for absolute speed crowd (only 2 speeds: fast, or faster)
can tweak the cylinders with gaskets and their fancy head adapters or Tee Dee head to their delight!

Hey Bernie did you see this > https://www.coxengineforum.com/t16891-cox-engines-quarterly-newsletters-bad-link , How much more trouble/$$ would have been to make these cyl.s tapered ? Although the cylinder sets you had before were very good power makers !

That is very cool, and considerate to Cox enthusiasts, To make the cylinders and other parts new…. When I thought about powering airplanes again with Cox, I found that they are still well supported to my pleasant surprise… Thank you!!

Thanks for the link, was not aware of it.
We did once get a quote for tapered cylinders and the end result was that the retail pricing would be about $5.00 higher; resulting in cylinder / piston sets pushing $25 in our online store and $30 on eBay. How many buyers out there would be willing to pay such a price? We estimate that it would only be a small percentage and we would have to make at least 1,000 of them to keep the price this "low".

Hello Bernie,
I missed out on the number eight cox engine quarterly newsletter years ago and found the link.
Tried to use it and it didn't work?
If/when you have time, could you fix the link, please?
Best Regards,
Mike McIntyre

Re: 049 Cylinder and pistons now available again
Thanks for the reply Bernie , 1000 is a lot of set to make it worth while to all . I am sure there are lots of people that would bee willing to pay that much for something that would run better and last longer If taking care of / but getting suck with a large amount could become a big profit sitting waiting $$ Even a waiting list pay up front type could take along time to a least get the money to cover the process before having them made could bee a long wait .
Oh well !
