Re: S.M.A.L.L. 2023 "Here We Go"
Guys started showing up through the day yesterday (Wednesday), including Mark -batjac-, and some of the main players.
More to arrive today, and everything is charged up...here are some un-cropped, photos and video captures. The outright videos will have to wait due to the limited data with my phone's hot-spot connection.
Gonna Be Fun!!!
Mud Dabber got "down-engined" from its O.S. .35 to an O.S. .25 to make it S.M.A.L.L. legal. The old dog was still able to pack a couple GoPros around Sky Tiger Field.

Nostalgia
The red plane with white stripes and tip plates is a Mayfly. It was the plane I used to learn to fly RC back in the late 60's -- it had a Rand Galloping Ghost actuator, a DIY receiver and Enya .15. The plane is now long gone, but I still have the rest of the hardware. Mine was painted solid orange and nicknamed the Orange Bomb!
Great pics -- keep 'em coming.

Re: S.M.A.L.L. 2023 "Here We Go"
Once again, just some stray stuff I pulled from the BUNCH of photo and video files from Friday.
I'll have to get home and rested before editing out some viedos.
Other than the heat, which has gotten a little rough the past two days, we've had mostly calm air, with beautiful twilight evenings that I was almost too tired to appreciate.
Here are a few more, with a sequence of Mark and Leo launching Mark's EZ Bee, which Mark graciously allowed me to fly.

Hi All,
Happy Cox Vapour Trails....
All the other S.M.A.L.L. stuff is cool too...
Wish I was there.
On Friday morn, I swapped BeNol for my sunscreen, just to be with you...
Not the same smell as burning it, but...
I thank all for the 'reporting' and those who fly there...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: S.M.A.L.L. 2023 "Here We Go"
Well, I'm back home. I have to thank Kim for being a great host. He shared his shelter with me to keep the sun off, his chair when mine broke on me, his table for me to set up on and do engine runs. He even admitted to his S.M.A.L.L. friends that he knew me!
I was really hot. Pretty much too hot to fly for me, being used to the Pacific Northwest flying weather. I only got a few flights in. My first couple ended in crashes. Unfortunately, Kim did not get them on video. My transmitter was bad. I had almost bought a new transmitter a couple of weeks ago, but I was saving money for the meet. So I ended up having to drive 40 miles away to the nearest Hobby Town to buy a new transmitter....
But it worked great. Then I found out how out of trim my RC models were. I really need to put in more stick time. Anyway, I'll shift my focus if I get to make it to Fall S.M.A.L.L. in October. I brought 10 control line planes and three RC planes. In October I'll only bring two or three control line planes and a couple more RC. I have three or four RC projects in mind to build.
I did get to maiden the Wildcat and Hamp this morning. I'll post video when I get it uploaded, and links to the outside of the circle video that Doug Hart took.
Great times, Y'all!

Re: S.M.A.L.L. 2023 "Here We Go"
Just staggered in about an hour ago, and ditto to everything Mark said: A FUN, but HOT Flying Event!!!!
I thought I was over-doing the amount of water I took, but almost ran out, even with that I got from the Sky Tigers.
Some quick, unedited photos from this morning's flying of Mark's Wildcat and Hamp, and one video frame from yesterday, with Mark's Q-Tee cutting by under the Pietenpol I bought from Kevin Wilfong.
More to follow.

@Kim, I love the photos of Mark's Wildcat and Zero, very well done, looks like a lot of fun flying. Your parasol camera plane looks like a fun one, too. Looking forward to your summary reports, videos and photos of the event forthcoming.

Re: S.M.A.L.L. 2023 "Here We Go"
Gradually sorting out the footage and photos, AND dragging the planes and camping gear back to some kind of order.
The heat was rough on this run, and I didn't do the best job of categorizing the stuff as I shot it, so got a bit of a jigsaw puzzle to work through.
S.M.A.L.L. Flyer, Dave Schiefer, flew my Goldberg "Ranger 42", which allowed me to video its flight.
More to come.

Kim's red & white = Pietenpol right?
Yes, the Piet is a Hobby World RTF I bought from Kevin Wilfong at S.M.A.L.L.
Still working on the photos and video...I had to step back for a while after I managed to totally dump a video I'd worked on for a couple hours...so it was time for a walk down the road and trying a few other things while my psyche healed!

Re: S.M.A.L.L. 2023 "Here We Go"
Kim, there's something special about that Ranger. The lines it has says it all. I think it's the slimness that does it for me. Years back when my dad was big into R/C, high wing planes such as this were the rage. .15 size planes were entry level and there were many. Hobby Lobby offered a full foam Cessna which I recall seeing everywhere. However, it was porky in terms of fuselage shape. It was wide more than likely to achieve the strength of the beaded foam. It just didn't look correct but it was cool nonetheless. I recall low temp films being offered by many and those that mastered it would reflect their talent on the field. I recall seeing some very cool stuff being made. I'm thinking 1975? We have a highway here which back then had no interstate designation. The number was never defined and the project was stalled for nearly 40 years. Barriers were placed across the highway to deter curious off roaders, motorcyclists etc. This now became THE spot for r/c flyers. I remember seeing 20-40 people at any given time up there on the highway flying out over open fields now which have homes as far as you can see. It's amazing that with the old analog tech that frequencies were never crossed up . Another plane I remember was made by PILOT which was a all ABS Cessna which was offered in a turquoise and reddish orange plastic. This also reminds me of your Ranger due to it's laid back rudder and thinness. Call me weird but these planes are the coolest to me. I suppose they take me back to a time which I favored the most.
