@Jerry, that Typhoon flies really nice, has quite a bit of potential.

Nice design. Did you mask it off? I used Krylon OD on mine.

Re: Scratchbuiilt Hawker Typhoon maiden flight.
Jerry, it has a very nice scale finish to it. A little while back I purchased that kit, because I totally love this series of Guillows. They are built lighter for rubber power, which makes them excellent flyers. Similar to you, I had "one of these days" intentions of creating a C/L version based on it, albeit larger. Because of its simplified fuselage would be easier to recreate it as a full fuselage design. At 1.5X size it would be suitable for an A.C. Gilbert .11 Thunderhead or Fox .09 Rocket, or even a hopped up .049 Medallion. At 2X scale up, it could be powered by an Enya .09-III or IV or Fox .15X engine.
Even with the scale deviations for easier building, as your model shows, one still immediately recognizes it as a Hawker Typhoon, no doubts about it.

Years ago I had that plan enlarged 150% , I’ll have to dig it out of my plan storage and put it on my todo build listGallopingGhostler wrote:Jerry, it has a very nice scale finish to it. Jim, regarding it's fantastic looks, I posted Jerry's first photo on RC Group's thread, and it received a compliment back:944_Jim wrote:And so Hasegawa Egg cute!GallopingGhostler wrote:Even with the scale deviations for easier building, as your model shows, one still immediately recognizes it as a Hawker Typhoon, no doubts about it.

Jim, if you finish what you started, you could start a thread build "contest" or "fad" for others to contribute to!

Re: Scratchbuiilt Hawker Typhoon maiden flight.
@Jerry, my comment wasn't out of meaness. It was not in direct reference to your build; rather, it was regarding some of the changes that Guillow made to these series of aircraft, which caused them to deviate from true scale appearance. Walt Musciano did this many times with his simplified scale models in his Scientific half-A series, very popular in the 1950's through 1970's. Paul Del Gatto did similar with his rubber powered Warbird series he did for Scientific.Jerry wrote:Cartoonish? 🥺
It was not meant to belittle your accomplishment in making this popular Guillow series fly in a new mode not originally designed for, but performed excellently in.

Re: Scratchbuiilt Hawker Typhoon maiden flight.
I found my enlarged 150% print, it make it 27”. The same wing span of the Guillows 400 series spitfire. I’ll build it after my 50 year old comet p40, which by the way is more like scratch building it,

Re: Scratchbuiilt Hawker Typhoon maiden flight.
Interesting historical video with opinion/perspective on the Hawker Typhoon.
I found it interesting that later on in the war, they found the ultimate strengths of the aircraft in spite of its weaknesses, that helped to turn the tide of the war.

Re: Scratchbuiilt Hawker Typhoon maiden flight.
Hi Jerry,
Nicely done !
Most of the Guillows kits here with a Cox.049 never made it past getting launched.
Nevermind several laps !
My rubber powered Guillow Typhoon flew good. (better than others)
My first kit with a molded plastic canopy/spinner. The spinner was for display.
Hung it from the ceiling with thread, while building other planes.
Our cat 'Sparky' did not like it.
Came home from school.
Obliterated Typhoon, cat chewing on the rubber band.
My first thought was kill the cat.
Then,
Oh yeah, did my glue dry ?
Sparky and I agreed Cox engines are more fun.
No people/pets were harmed,
In this story...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
P.S. My latest R/C Scale Combat Typhoon is 20yrs old. OSFX.25 barely SMALL legal.
Every nick/ding/repair makes it look more brutal, and gets painted as battle damaged.
I am scared to fly it.
A 10-4 on a 2.75 spinner looks stupid, but works,
.The 'chin' radiator is a perfect landing skid.
I know,
I'll try to learn how to take/ send pictures...

Re: Scratchbuiilt Hawker Typhoon maiden flight.
ADave/2,
Can you take pictures with a smartphone? If so, then you can try the upload feature via the phone's browser.
If you are using a digital camera, then you'll need to use a computer and browser.
The only difference is the browser may show "funny" on the phone and will require zoom, pan side-by-side to show the "upload from" dialog box. It is much easier to do the view/upload from a computer, but the same process.

Hey Jerry,
I didn’t see anyone address your engine run, what’s the story behind the engine?

Re: Scratchbuiilt Hawker Typhoon maiden flight.
Hi 944 jim,
I have this big nice zoom camera that does video too.
About the same weight as one of my 72 transmitters.
Batteries are good. (both)
Got the camera/cord/laptop.
Just have to figure it out.
Tough, when you are better at sliderules and 35mm film...
I'll eventually figure it out,
Thanks,
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
