Kim's Product Review: "How Cool Are these Coolers??!!!"
Disclaimer: Most members here are aware of my penchant for rambling stories, and sometimes unwarranted excitement toward everyday stuff...so continue at your own risk!
------------------------------------------------------------------
So last year, I made a run to a grocery store in Mayflower, Arkansas for supplies during Summer S.M.A.L.L., and spotted "The Cooler of My Dreams". I bought one, and came to regret not buying several. In spite of later searching around my home turf, they were not to be had...so I've been planning on swinging by there on my way to this year's S.M.A.L.L.
While figuring just HOW far I would be driving out of my way for these foam wonders, Google Maps suddenly listed the store as being a "Harps" grocery. We got one in Jackson!!! But I'd already checked there (of course, being a GUY, I didn't ask anybody about them)!
Still, this caused me to return to Harps this morning and THERE THEY WERE!!! In my defense, they WERE NOT in the picnic supplies area where I'd searched before, but stacked high on top of the soft drinks coolers up front.
Obviously overjoyed, I bought three of them, with the check-out girl appearing cautiously amused with my bubbling happiness, (I've become used to receiving 'That Look').
OK..."What's so special about these coolers?", you might ask. Well, I'll tell you...it's their shape...they're almost perfectly cubical! ALL the other drink coolers I've seen or own have tapered sides...fine for the beach or a picnic...not so much for when every square inch of space is needed.
And as any dedicated hoarder worth their medication knows, "SQUARES RULE"! Tapered or circular containers waster TONS of space when stacked against each other, and their smaller footprint vrs height makes them much more tippy, while cubes stack better vertically!!!
AND their use? Protecting my delicate transmitters from heat stroke. I started using coolers years ago to keep my film cameras cool during camping trips and flying in the Piet. I actually "nerded it out", using a digital thermometer to test if it worked. I can't remember the exact numbers but it was like 15 degrees or so difference...and I felt like that made it worth while.
You should care for your transmitters...worship them even. "For they are the beacons that bring your beloved flying machines back home".
Gonna wait a while before I go back and buy a couple more...don't want a deputy coming to the hill to see if I'm cooking meth or something...

Re: Kim's Product Review: "How Cool Are these Coolers??!!!"
Is there a "name brand" on the coolers?
I might be interested in getting one or two?
Looks like the cooler that my Omaha Steaks come in when I do an order from them but with a handle?
The Omaha Steaks coolers are about 2 inches thick though and look to be the same size?

Well, believe it or not, they appear to have no manufacture info, save for a "Made in USA Flag & barcode sticker".
I didn't keep the receipt, but will ask the store manager when I go back.

Actually, there is more madness to the reasoning. It is not because the cooler is suited for beach use. It takes up less storage space, making them cheaper to stockpile, ship, and store at the store until sold. It benefits the maker/distributor/seller more than the buyer.Kim wrote:OK..."What's so special about these coolers?", you might ask. That's amazing, a manufacturer not screaming "Hey look at me! Buy me!!!!!!!!!! colorful meaningless decals splashed all over the exterior. Just good old Stars and Bars.
Let the product sell itself, a new concept. Suppertime, I'm opening up a can of colorful Progresso soup.

Didn't try running the code, but what I DID do was dig out the original one I got in Mayflower...and it DOES have a logo/name:
"LoBoy Thermal Chest", with a Polar Bear kicked back and relaxing!
These are a bit bigger than the ones I just bought, so I'll probably be picking up a couple more on the way to S.M.A.L.L.!!

The P/C people will probably try to cancel us calling them Eskys because it has "racial connotations".
Yes, Esky, which is an actual brand name, is short for Eskimo . They've been called that as long as I can remember, both the "official" brand name version, as well as every other sort of cooler that gets the same monica regardless of brand.
I did notice the "Chilly Bin" thing when I was recently over there. Sounds pretty typical Kiwi. Ha Ha Ha.

- I dunno about you:
- but personally, I'm getting a little tired of this Politically Correct nonsense. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn had this to say, “The simple step of a courageous individual is not to take part in the lie.” From his book The Gulag Archipelago 1918-1956” published 1973. https://quotecatalog.com/quote/g7O6PE1
and
“Communism is as crude an attempt to explain society and the individual as if a surgeon were to perform his delicate operations with a meat ax.” From his novel, Warning to the West, 1976. https://quotecatalog.com/quote/XpGAr91
