My sister and I packed a spectacular lunch. We went to see my dad and had lunch with him. We sat under a nice shady dogwood tree had a nice lunch and took in the wonderful day.

Happy Fathers Day! Empty Re: Happy Fathers Day!

Post  rsv1cox Sun Jun 16, 2024 1:16 pm

I just returned from celebrating Fathers Day with my son and two daughters.

I'm probably the only Dad to get a loaf of bread among other things for Fathers Day. It seems one of the memories of their childhood was me making them peanut butter and marshmellow sandwiches for lunch, a carry-over from my own childhood days. Cessna 172 kit is as packed. Found at the flea market by my son for $10. Outdoor shoes are well appreciated, I go through them pretty fast.

I had brought over my 8mm movie projector and movies of my oldest daughter whose birthday was the day before. They were taken when she was two and three and before her older siblings were born. Little blonde cutie being the center of attention. That all changed for the worst according to her when the other two arrived. Smile

My son always comes up with something hobby related at these occasions.

Very nice Bob, your son certainly came through with a rarely seen treasure and semi-scale at that. Seems to be a part of the Top Flite old Jig Time series solid sheet balsa models. First Ken Willard came to mind until I looked at your kit plan title block. Couldn't help but notice the kit engineering by Sid Axelrod and draftsman, Paul Del Gatto. All three to one extent or another seemed to work together to provide such, alternating between designer and drafter.

I loved Top Flite kits because they had a way with these solid all balsa built up models. The R/C models were a cinch to keep lightweight, 4 coats of lightly brushed clear dope with color trim. The natural wood finish added its own artistic beauty.

My half-A T/F Zero C/L had a molded fuselage shell halves to make a full body fuselage, was beautiful to behold.

Ah, sibling rivalry at its best. Very Happy

Very cool gift of the Cessna Bob!! …. Good on your family, They know you well Very Happy … It seems Top Flight “Compacts” were a popular thing at one time…. Probably mid 60’s or so….I have a little booklet with several pages in it explaining how to fly (and stunt)
TF Compacts….. Was written by Ken Willard…. First and last page of this section below…
The book stays on my desk for inspiration….

Thanks George and Robert.

Now, you are the glue that holds your children and grandchildren together[i]

I passed that responsibility off to my son.  It used to be - you have a problem, call Dad.  Now it's call Mark.

I cleaned the surface dirt off the box with Johnson's Pledge, and looked the contents over.  Die cut parts that have not been touched.  Nice clean cuts.  The small parts envelope has not been opened.  To valuable to disturb, so no clone here.  The contrast between the two tracings of Ken Willards brake and Top Flights wheel pants illustrations, both so nicely done.

Mine was "Tin". A mostly black male German Shepard. A more loyal dog I have never owned.

Perhaps Tin followed in the footsteps of the movie and TV infamous shepard dog, Rin Tin Tin? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rin_Tin_Tin

Yes, he was named after the TV dog, Rin Tin Tin. We bought him while on leave in our home town of Raymond NH. An elderly fellow was selling him because he could no longer take care of him. A marvelous dog. We already had a female German Shepard and bred them after we got home. Wife and I with three kids and two dogs in a 1961 Mercury Comet. We were happy to get home, 750 miles I drove it straight through. Try to find a motel that would take two German Shepards and a family.
