Tee Dee 010 needs glow battery
Hello, I have 50 years of experience running glow engines, but only 10 minutes of experience with the tiny Tee Dee 010. Runs OK, but only with glow plug battery connected. Will stop pretty quickly if I disconnect. Brand new engine, running a little rich but two-cycling, fuel is not 1/2 A fuel, but should have about 18-20% nitro. Is the little guy just telling me he needs more nitro??
Thanks!
PS: Tee Dee 020 runs perfectly on exactly the same fuel. Glow battery not required even when running very rich.

Re: Tee Dee 010 needs glow battery
Hello:
1) Check that the glow plug and the spraybar venturi are properly adjusted.
2) Connect the battery to the glow plug.
3) Try to tune the engine by closing the needle to its maximum rpm.
4) After 2 minutes of running at full rpm, remove the power from the glow plug.
5) If the engine decreases the rpm a little, it may be normal, you can use a 25% nitro mix then and try again.
5a) If the engine stops directly when removing the spark plug clip, use a 25% nitro mix directly.
6) Restart the engine with 25% nitro and 18 to 20% oil.
7) Tune the engine to its maximum rpm with the glow plug connected.
DO NOT remove the glow plug clip, let it consume the entire tank of fuel.
9) Fill the fuel tank with 25% nitro fuel, repeat step 7) and step one more time.
10) Fill the fuel tank with 25% nitro fuel, start the engine, tune to its maximum rpm, remove the clip from the glow plug.
11) The engine stops, replace the glow plug with a new one.

Re: Tee Dee 010 needs glow battery
Yes, some glow plugs may have spoiled glow filament with a white-ish deposition on them, or simply insufficient iridium and platina coating. So a replacement head is worth a try.
I run my COX TeeDee 010-s with 30% nitro and 20%, strictly castor oil in the fuel, and they scream gratefully.

Thank you!
Thank you both for your replies. I'm sure a little more nitro or another glow head will fix it.

Re: Tee Dee 010 needs glow battery
It's not the nitro% that's the cause but the glow plug filament. I also had this problem with a .010 tee dee. The engine only worked with the battery attached. I changed the glow plug and now the engine works normally.pyropupx36 wrote:Thank you both for your replies. I'm sure a little more nitro or another glow head will fix it.
