Sunday Morning Comin' Down
With a nod to Kris Kristofferson - "No way to hold my head that didn't hurt"....add to that, back, bones, etc. I just don't want to go out and face that walkway construction again. It's just hard on this 87 YO body. But....it has to be done. Just went out and looked at it, heavy frost crunching beneath my feet.
Sunday Morning coming down a couple of days early.
Heading out.

Not finished but closer. Mark came over and leveled all the stones.
Yesterday:
Today:
Waiting for the outside edging to arrive. This stuff.
Yeah Joe, He was a talent, but first a songwriter. His words just flowed and had a cadence like no other. He recorded it, but Johnny Cash put it on the map.
Book a gift from my daughter.
They were great friends.

Looking good Robert. Back breaking work.. I know. I worked with my youngest brother; Jeff.. a Stone Mason when I was a much younger man.. (1995) for one Summer. He set the stone.. I mixed cement.. and put "back-up" stone behind the walls. The wall-work we did was mainly weathered field-stone.
These are photos of the stonework that he did on his property back in 1996..
The fountain being built..
Here's the backside of the fountain's retaining-wall and my 4 children.. (in their 30's now..)
The finished fountain.. there's nothing like the permanence of stone.

I love it roddie..........Carpe Diem - Latin for "Seize the Day". I try that every morning, but some days the day seizes me. My back has been sore ever since I moved to West Virginia, 14 years now. So what! Yesterday sifting all that wet mixed dirt and pea gravel and shovelling it into the wheelbarrow set it off, but this morning it's fine. A good nights sleep heals all.
My Chinese based supplier is slow shipping the outer edging slowing me down. That pea gravel may have to sit awhile before this is finished.
Beautiful stonework. Your brother is an artist.

Re: Sunday Morning Comin' Down
Glad your back is feeling better Robert. My two brothers and I are no strangers to back-pain.. Jeff doesn't do much heavy stonework anymore. He's been doing in-ground swimming-pool "coping" jobs almost exclusively. According to him; no one (Masonry contractors) wants to do them.. so he gets a LOT of those jobs because of a lack of competition. He also does stone-veneering on indoor fireplaces.. and bluestone walkways/patios occasionally.
