Selecting the right clothing for outdoor work is almost an art form. You need to dress warm enough so that you won’t freeze your butt off immediately when you go out, or sprain muscles when they’re still cold, but on the other paw, not too heavily to be able to move well, and not so warm that you sweat too much and then freeze your nutz off within about 1.77 seconds if you stop working.
Working out in the cold will also consume those calories, it’s surprising how hungry you get afterwards. And also dehydrated, even if you don’t sweat much, which is weird. But after a few hours of physical work outdoors, a good snack and possibly a glass of red wine, I sleep like a baby. It’s fun and rewarding as long as your life doesn’t depend on it

How about burning your butt off. I wasn't going to post this picture, butt......
Backing up to the burn pile a couple of days ago to warm my hands stuck behind me, I got a little too close. Singed my sweat pants too.
Hey, you can't see behind there...... Just melted the material that I did not realize until I got back to the house.
I'm back to my quilted coveralls that i warm over the grate before putting them on.

I saw it 12 above zero in Jacksonville one morning. My '52 Chevy wouldn't start. Grew up in New Hampshire, as a kid I was never cold.

Coldest I’ve ever been was in Valdosta Ga on Christmas Eve under an f-4 phantom changing a fuel boost pump. I think I might of cried a little

Hi akjgardner,
I believe you, Thank you for your your Service. Respect.
rsv1cox,
Canadians tend to burn wood, through stoves.
Ash and keeping the flue clean, somewhat a bitch.
But,
If you get it right, with a good chainsaw...
You can easily split frozen wood with an axe.
The middle of Winter... swinging an axe.
We call it, " Warming us Twice "...
And all, on great winter day.
Today was a Sunny Cold Day...
I miss splitting wood, and sharpening axes...
Sharpening/running chainsaws...
But, that is just me...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
Hi getback,
We actually, go 'Crazy' here ~mid February.
'Cabin Fever'.
A well known phenomonem we cannot spell yet.
Every frigging year.
The 'green/ wet' logs split great great below freezing.
Freeze/dry when covered in a shed.
If you run out of stove coals, good luck.
Fun Fact:
Coal, was named after the glowing embers of a wood fire, and to keeping it going.
Do not get me started on,
Cords of wood/Chords of music, it is very messy.
Keep warm my friend...
Hey, rsv1cox,
It is called, "Hot Pants".
Gals of the 1980s perfected it....
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
That was a close call Bob! Cotton is more resistant to heat, maybe a better choice near that huge bonfire
About 20F and a bit windy here, got the fireplace going.

Re: How's the weather?
Got home , couldn’t make it up the hill so I set the parking brake and got out and started to walk up the hill , I turned around to go check the mailbox and the truck was sliding down . Caught up to it and got it stopped halfway in the middle of the road . .

Re: How's the weather?
The tri-state area looks as though it has RI weather as well. We got a small snowstorm last evening, I just got in from cleaning the cars. Tomorrow's weather will be in the 40's, if the winds would subside, the Philly Fliers can get some circle therapy in. I could use some myself, I have a newly finished Combat Streak powered with a enema .35. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1262825728140383&set=pcb.1262825841473705 I managed to get out on New Years day but the winds were over the top. The new plane has yet to be flown. I tried something new with the paint, I used a champagne pearl in the clear prior to spraying final clear coat. It offered a bit of eyecatching flash and depth to the finish. The picture doesn't allow to view this but in the sun, it's pretty cool.

I hope Ken doesn't mind... (I'll delete if so..) It's a sharp-looker.. but like Ken stated; you really have to see it in the sun.. to get the full effect.

I'm not a Facebook user either. However, anyone can click on the link to view it. I just view the pictures until the popup tells one to log in which I can't do. In the past, you could view a lot more without a account.

Meanwhile in Sodankylä, Finland:
My youngest son started his military service this Monday, in the artillery brigade, like his big brother 3 years ago.

Re: How's the weather?
I enjoyed your video Kari, 25 below zero makes my 21 degree above this morning seem almost warm.
I remember when I joined the Navy on 15 March 1956, a cold winters day in New Hampshire. Rode a steam locomotive from Manchester to Boston.
