Odd Stunt Tank?
I posted this on the RCU forum a couple of years ago and thought some here might be interested.
Bernie has seen these before, but I've never seen any mention of this tank in the CEF.
It's a typical 8cc stunt tank except, there's no reed retainer of any kind.
No spring clip or plastic cap. The reed is flexed to insatall in a radius groove.
It's all one piece and nothing comes apart. The way it's pictured is the way it runs.
I have run it, and it seems like buisness as usual.
Anybody else seen one before?
Bob

I have never seen one before. I did see a flying pig once at a rock concert, but that's another story.

Re: Odd Stunt Tank?
Forgot to add, I'm not trying to test anyone's knowledge. I don't
really know where I got it or anything about it.
The intake end of the venturi is larger than usual.

Re: Odd Stunt Tank?
I have seen it... It was in a cox prototype drawing. The notes indicated that the cir clip was a cheaper option/ and less fragile so they only made a few. Ill try to dig it out here.

So did I...and it wasn't a Pink Floyd concert!
Is anyone tried asking Larry Renger? I'bet he'd know the story.

Re: Odd Stunt Tank?
I sent Larry a question via PM in November when we were discussing SPI, and the message is still unread.

I have emailed him quite a few times...I usually get answers.
Or, If I can have permission to post the pic on Stunthangar, he's on there all the time.
Mind if I copy the pic?

Re: Odd Stunt Tank?
I think there is danger for the reed to pull out of it slot. This can happen even when the spring is there, if it isn't close enough to the reed. I have had that happen to the regular construction when I was pushing the limits...

The 8-track version has Part 1 and 2 of Pigs on the Wing back to back and is linked with a guitar solo performed by Snowy White. That guitar solo was played during the 1977 Animals tour and is only available on the 8-track. (sorry for bringing tapes into yet another topic LOL)

Yep, alas solid state ended the good old days when you just pulled out the tubes, threw them in a paper bag and used the tube tester at the local 7 – 11 to find the bad/weak one.RknRusty wrote:Wow, solid state!
Admittedly it is easier and quicker nowadays to just scrap and replace the entire device/appliance. No need to waste time troubleshooting, the darn thing probably can't be repaired anyway .

Loud and clear Al.
Back in the '60s, every drug store
had a tube tester, and a new tube or two did the trick.
The feeling of self accomplishment was the priceless reward.

Re: Odd Stunt Tank?
I used to fix tube testers for Sylvania when I was in college. Tube circuitry is complicated as crap compared to transistors. I fixed peoples busted TVs in the dorms too. Our dorm had several thousand students living in it, so there were plenty of fried stereos and TVs. We were way out in the country at Clemson U, but lo and behold, there was a Mom and Pop electronics supply store just down the road.dckrsn wrote:Loud and clear Al.

It can be repaired but you need a hot air reflow or IR reflow station to be able to fix this stuff these days. Now everything has a 1000 pin BGA and 0402 size parts. If it can't connect to the Internet it doesn't sell these days. A 40x boom microscope is a must to see the dang parts.
