Re: On buying Cox engines....................
The ones with limited funds probably learn faster. I've never paid more than $32 for an engine. My only purchases have been two 1994 NIB Black Widows and a clean TD .051.ahrma_581 wrote:SuperDave wrote:Most everyone here needs to take a good course in Economics 101.

Indeed it is taught at the School of Hard Knocks! It's the very first lesson in fact. You must have been napping in the Sonora Desert.

Yes it is! Apparently over-eager engine buyers were napping.

Yep, I buy a lot of engines, but I also sell the same amount that come in, making a few bucks here and there.
Engine Prices
There are Cox motors out there that have been sold for much more then $320...I dont understand the "sticker shock" of that number or am I mis-interpreting this thread? Off-Topic for a second... going into the world of Turbine Jets...$320 is the price of fuel you will burn in one afternoon . If your on a budget..stick with the smaller aircraft because the bigger you go ... the price just follows suit. If your collecting engines from different manufactures of the 50's & 60's..$320 is not alot of money....Or let me say this ...$320 is not a lot of money today Period!! Just the way it is.

OMGAWD Pounds????????????????????????????????
BTW
Man what turbine is that?
Or are we talking full size?
Final observation
When I was little my Great Grandma gave me a Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Mug. Being the little so and so I was, I
took it to the local purveyor of Tat who offered me £50 (I could have bought a new bike and quite a bit of Cox gear
for that) for it saying "of course they made an awful lot of these so one day it might not be worth as much"........
Fast forward 40 years and a lot more of the several million they made have now appeared and they are worth about
bugger all now even though they are 115 years old.
They made an awful lot of Cox engines.
I'm not a gambling man but I'd put money on the fact we are close to,if not past peak price territory.

Turbines cost much, much more. I think that's what he paid for his little diesel from Valentine.
Re: On buying Cox engines....................
He said the cost of an afternoons fuel Matt
Not the cost of a Jetcat, Wren etc.
P.S.
We still don't know the currency?
Big difference across the globe particularly if it was in Lira

Thought to ponder:
Why is it you Brits still maintain an archaic monetary and we in the US have such a goofy system of measurement?

No, that was in the days when we had REAL money, £sd, ("librae, solidi, denarii" went back to Imperial Rome) not this "pounds and pence" rubbish we have now, and your measurements are the RIGHT ones, miles, feet and inches go back thousands of years, this French-invented "Metric" that is forced on us now is only around 200 years old. Most folk here, other than children who know no better, never, ever, say "It's 6 kilometers away" EVERYONE says "it's X MILES" and I am very glad to say that Northern Ireland road signs still give distances in miles!

That explains something I've always wondered about. Gasoline is dispensed in liters (to keep Brussels happy, I suppose) but the Brit classic bike magazines always mention mileage in 'miles per gallon'.
Imperial gallons at that, so we colonials can't compete with our smaller US gallons...

Re: On buying Cox engines....................
I don't understand this thread either. Was there suppose to be a link Dave or did you just feel like sharing some wisdom?
At any rate..... Ebay is a good lesson in demand but the thing is the supply is near unlimited so it kind of throws a wrench in the Supply vs Demand theory.
If demand is high and supply is low prices should go up and vice versa.......
However, demand for Cox engines is high and supply is also high so why are we paying $100+ for dinky used engines?
My theory is greed and deep pockets. Or a credit dependent nation. Buy now and pay later! Seriously that's the garbage I see every time I go to checkout on Ebay.
