"Storm B.O.T." goes on another mission...STILL No Lightning !!!
And so, ANOTHER fine, isolated thunderstorm shows up on the outskirts of the Skunk Works! And so...AGAIN...by the time the B.O.T. is charged and outfitted with Spy Gear...the storm decides to take a breather!
Flying from my front yard ALWAYS presents some challenges as I've got to steer the B.O.T. out-bound between a set of power-lines (why must there are ALWAYS power-lines?!) on the right and a cedar tree on the left. This is not usually too big a deal as I just make the B.O.T. parallel the lines until it's beyond the tree and out over the pasture.
Then, in keeping with tradition...the previously dark shaft of rain and lightning turns to a thin, dirty curtain with no flying electricity.
Today's missions (two trips) were slightly MORE hazardous that normal, as my landlord, ever concerned that I keep my piloting skills highly polished, stacked a row of round-bail hay in a way to tighten-up my already tight landing approach.
So, as you glider guys will appreciate, once the .051 has shrieked it's last and it's time for the B.O.T. to come home, I get to calculate the usual downwind / time-to-turn / height-distance-wind-glide-track-fence-road-gravel approach...AND have to snuggle close...
and I mean CLOSE !!!!!...in a pass by the giant hay bails...
for a sliding touch-down in the front yard !
So, none of the hoped-for lightning photos, but the B.O.T. IS safely back in it's roost...ready to give it another go at first chance...
Now...some well-deserved Cheerios !!!!
