Perfect tank mod
My Li'l Satan requires an in wing tank. 1/4oz as a matter of fact. I decided that just would be too short of a flight with a TD up front. So I decided to rework two 1/6 oz tanks and make a 1/3 oz tank.
In doing so I was able to position a longer pickup tube in rearmost outboard corner to ensure optimum fuel pickup (not my idea it's Ken Cook's) I was able to slowly dremel out an original tank back to make a connecting ring for the two tank halves.
So, nothing genious here just an idea should you ever desire a larger tank and all you have are two smaller ones.
The first pic is a 1/4 oz tank compared to my new 1/3 oz. The second pic is it installed in the Satan wing.

Re: Perfect tank mod
Ron, I'm not sure how far along you are with the build. Cleaning the tank after soldering is essential. I check for leaks by pressure testing followed by a laquer thinner flush and external wash. I then let the tank sit full of fuel for a day or two just to prevent any corrosion from soldering. Always shake the tank to swirl around and after all fluids are empty, shake the tank and listen for anything loose inside. If for some reason a solder ball has loosened inside it can be most problematic. I shake all tanks especially if one has been sitting for a while. Seeing that the tank is installed square to the leading edge, sometimes canting the far right right corner outboard slightly can also improve fuel pickup. Ken

Thanks Ken,
I did all those things except a fuel soak! Hopefully I flushed it enough as it's already glued in place. The tank can only be installed one way only as the Nacelle mount is already too darn close. I may have to offset it some to clear the tube.
It would have been better if it was modified to look like the Jr. Satan as it would have exposed the LE more an allowed for better tank placement.

Nicely done, Ron.
Just another good example of how folks on the forum are always thinking about mods and coming up with good solutions to problems.

No kidding, Andrew. I'm Far more advanced after two and a half years of model forum surfing than I would be without that resource. I hate to think what my skill set would be right now without that. I sure wouldn't be building and flying the quality equipment I am now. You yourself, especially on RCG, have gotten me thinking in many areas I didn't know existed.
