TD 051 Aluminum Intake
TD 051 Aluminum Intake
I put one on tonight, had to buy one as my wife lost my plastic replacement one.. The teflon gasket for the rear of the intake distorted and so I was on the lookout for a replacement. How about a .09 head gasket? I'll let you guys know if it works or not tomorrow.
Re: TD 051 Aluminum Intake
Teflon gasket? I don't think I have one on either of my Tee Dees.

Re: TD 051 Aluminum Intake
The teflon gasket was suppose to be the one towards the rear of the intake near the cylinder. In the pic you can barely see the 09 head gasket.
Re: TD 051 Aluminum Intake
Travis,
It should work fine, the original body never used any gaskets!
Crap! That was my Diamond post...... I guess I should have said something witty and humerous.

Yeah I bought one for an .09 same deal. Your .09 gasket should be fine. There are two machined surfaces mating together, with the plastic body you had machined surfaces against plastic. The old bodies worked fine in my opinion but, the venturi hole was prone to breaking. If you notice any poor running conditions and suspect air leakage you could always grab a replacement gasket.

I had bought one of these on eBay and I tried to look for the gaskets and could not find any I was thinking of going to home depot and finding the the different gaskets there.

Re: TD 051 Aluminum Intake
Those work OK. I like the plastic better. But for the TD .09 the only option is the aluminum intake or scrounge epay for an original one.
I bet I have spent close to $500 at MECOA on plastic tanks and carb bodies the last few years. Just put in another $150 order for more.
I keep pestering Randy to make a run of TD .09 carb bodies every time I order. Maybe there is something wrong with the mold. They do wear out.

Don't believe metal medallion carb bodies are made. Could use a TD 15 aluminum body and would have to buy a TD 15 Venturi and needle valve body. Or make a threaded adapter for a RC carb that would thread into the carb body.
New plastic ones are available from MECOA.

For the 15 it is hard to find a venturi, needle valve assembly and alu. carb body, even on eBay but you could still check. It is easy for the needle. So unless you have the time or money it wouldn't be worth it but you could try, im not sure if it helps in performance or even decrease the performance

Re: TD 051 Aluminum Intake
Over the years now I have bought 3 of the aluminum TeeDee items as pictured above
It took some learning to NOT distort the rear gasket. In fact the first one I mangled too much to be reused.
I just dabbed a little of the anaerobic gasket maker on the back side ( Ken suggested a few years back (Permatex product)). That engine has seen quite a lot of figure nine abuse, dirt, and cleaning..... no issues at all with it
For what it is worth the new replacement plastic bodies are a LOT cheaper and I have not damaged one yet with my abuse
Each of my 7 running TeeDee .049/,051s has new parts and I scored a fair selection of replacement .051 cyl/pistons
I doubt I will ever spend the big bucks on the aluminum carb body again
Jest sayin

Re: TD 051 Aluminum Intake
The parts were crossed over from the Sportsman to the Tee Dee so it might just fit on a tee dee. I know the sportsman was reed valve though but like i said maybe the venturi and needle but the venturi is shaped different even if it fits it might hurt the performance or not run at all or run at 20,000 rpm........ lol.
