Texaco duration slow race
All this talk of seeing how fast we can get the Cox .049 reed valve engine to run on a 5x3 prop got me thinking of having a Texaco duration slow race.
The goal would be to see how slow in RPM and long duration we can get a Texace style engine to run on a Cox grey 8x4 prop and 8cc of fuel.
Not sure what fuel yet but a lower nitro would be best so maybe 15% nitro.
Looking to see if there is any interest in this.

Maybe, dunno. I run 15% so I at least have the right fuel for this one.
I have a few ideas at least...

What about a Texaco Jr?

Build one! I don't own a Texaco either, but I have parts to select from spanning decades.

I like this idea a little better.

Re: Texaco duration slow race
Does it have to be original? Built from parts? Can any parts be changed or modified?
Re: Texaco duration slow race
Jason needs to confirm, but seeing as this is a duration race then the tank size would be a big player. Maybe a 5cc and an 8cc class?

Re: Texaco duration slow race
Duration?
RPM?
a combination of both?
How will the fuel metering be done for fairness? 5cc vs 8cc? Hard starts?
What are allowable modifications in stock, and super stock? Do they have to be on fuel tanks or are remote tanks allowable? At what point does an engine become "unlimited"?
Would "stock" be simply putting a "texaco" back on a bee or would this require an actual "texaco" engine?
I propose an otherwise stock or assembled engine is "super stock" Using a single bypass, double bypass, with or without boost ports. Use of a fixed intake restricter would be allowed? Would fixed exhaust restricters be allowed?
Unlimited?

Technically I think any engine could enter... most are not able to run really slow.

Bang on Travis
I think keeping the blighter running at all under 5k is an achievement regardless how it's done.

Re: Texaco duration slow race
Yes an engine can run slow....... It all has to do with porting and venturi size. Possibly head shimming as well. The 10x6 helped a little.......
Yeah we can over prop an engine to slow it down, but I bet a mouse engine won't do 3K with a 10x6

Re: Texaco duration slow race
I think it was already said on using a 8x4 texaco prop no 10x6
I have a antique 14" prop can I use that?

Re: Texaco duration slow race
I realize that..........you said just about any engine could enter which I disagree, John said any engine running under 5K is a feat no matter how it's done.
The point is not every engine can run slow.

No, you said the above. Which I took as written.
Why would you want to enter any engine that's not designed for duration? If you run out of fuel quickly you lose. If you turn the prop quickly you run out of fuel quicker and again you lose.
Not every engine is a duration engine.
If I am misunderstanding something set me straight!

Doesn't that say the same thing?

Re: Texaco duration slow race
The second part does. The sentence above that does not.
I said If I am misunderstanding something please let me know. By saying any engine could enter do you mean any Texaco or any engine in general?
Feel free to shoot me a PM so we don't bung up this thread.
