Re: What's that? Another Super Ringmaster?
Fred, Sterling designated a letter and number to their kits. S-1 was a profile Ringmaster. The S-1A was also Sterling not Estes and this was the original S-1 outline with a sheeted leading edge and trailing edge. The airfoils on both Ringmasters are not all that great and they both suffer. The S-1A in my opinion does better in speed but lacks in maneuverability. The S-1 A also breaks easier. The S-6 was the Super Ringmaster which is what has been depicted lately by other modelers. It has the full body fuse. Ken

Re: What's that? Another Super Ringmaster?
Hey Guys!
This is kind of an update on the Sterling Super Ringmaster that I built, a number of years ago. It has been flown by many people, and has been flown in every Ringmaster Fly-A-Thon since it was finished! It is a great little plane, and developed a moniker after a year or so, of it's life. I applied a clear-coat to the exterior, to protect the trim scheme, and something went wrong: the Ringmaster became sticky. The guys began calling it Mr. Sticky, because pieces of grass and dirt would stick to the plane! It became difficult to launch, because you couldn't release it! Your fingers would stick to the plane!
I tried lots of techniques and chemicals to remove the stickiness, but NOTHING WORKED! However, it does still fly well.
I built a new Super Ringmaster, and named it "Mr. Sticky II".It has a McCoy 35 for power, and is painted with the same colors and scheme as the original Mr. Sticky, except for the clear-coat: whatever that was! This kit is MSM's Super Ringmaster, and went together pretty well. Covered with Polyspan and dope. The purple colors are Krylon, and Great Planes black trim tape, with clear dope over everything. It has flown, and is not becoming sticky!

Re: What's that? Another Super Ringmaster?
Hi again, Guys!
This is tough! I'm learning how to put pictures into a post. In the last Ringmaster post, with pictures, the top 2 pictures are the original Sterling Super Ringmaster, and the bottom picture, of the nose-down plane, is the MSM model, with the McCoy 35 engine. Hopefully, in this post, I will get a picture of the partial line-up of our 2020 Ringmaster Fly-A-Thon. Close inspection will reveal the 2 Mr. Sticky airplanes.

That's weird with the sticky problem , What brand of clear coat is it ? Sounds like the paint and CC don't agree with each other chemical wise .
If it were me i would dust it wit balsa dust or something that would adhere and coat the sticky ?! Anywho the plane/s look good i see you bee liking some purple
Good to hear from you .

I've had paint incompability issues in the past! What a pain! Sometimes even paints of the same brand do that. Clears are a crapshoot. ... realy like that full fusleage Super Ringmaster!...does anybody make that kit?.....that purple paint scheme is killer!

Most of the Krylon line is acrylic enamel, it's not compatible with solvent based paint like dope. There's no mention of what brand dope but I even find it impressive that the underlying color coats didn't wrinkle. I contribute that to the acrylic because a standard base enamel would quickly be destroyed spraying dope over it.

I used to use Krylon with good results on all kinds of projects. Now no one around here carries it anymore. Very frustrating!
